Earning her first international medals at the 2011 FINA Open Water World Championships in Shanghai, China, Twichell picked up gold in the 5k team pursuit and bronze in the individual 5k open water event. From there she went on to win a first place title for her 10k swim at both the 2012 and 2016 Open Water National Championships. In 2017, Twichell upped her call out to 2x World Champion with an impressive win at the 2017 FINA Open Water World Championships in Budapest. In the pool she also won the 1500m freestyle at the 2018 Phillips 66 National Championships, securing her berth on the 2019 World Championships team. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most recently, Ashley turned heads at the first stop of the 2019 TYR Pro Swim Series in Knoxville, TN, where she had major podium finishes in both the women\u2019s 800m and 1500m freestyle events.
