What I am really impressed with is the process that he has moved through to get to this point,” Cal coach Dave Durden said. “There is a lot more to it than results on a page. The process for him to get to this point in his career and the decisions that he’s made and how he has gone about it has been really impressive. He also took the 100 butterfly with a mark of 46.05.

Cal honored its six-member senior class before the meet as they played in their final home meet. Two other seniors won individual races, with Nick Norman taking the 1,000 freestyle in a time of 8:55.28 and Carson Sand capturing the winning the 100 breaststroke in 53.33.

As part of Senior Day, Durden allows his seniors to pick which events they want to swim.

“Our seniors do a nice job of picking the events they want to swim,” Durden said. “They’re not swimming an event they don’t want to do. So that makes it easy for them to focus on what they are trying to accomplish. Utah dropped to 4-3, 0-3.

Grissom, a team co-captain with Monjay, won the 50y free in 19.35 to lower his PR by 0.25 and just 0.12 off of the pool record. He came back to win the 100y fly in 46.80, also a quarter second under his previous best, while leading a 1-2-3 USC finish. Senior Alex Valente was second (47.34) and sophomore Ariel Spektor was third (47.59).

Mulcare and Vissering each won their respective specialties.
