Sherwood also repeated as girls champions, winning with 285.5 points ahead of Bethesda-Chevy Chase (259) and Walter Johnson (192.5).<\/p>\n<p>A total of 10 Maryland state records were broken at this meet:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Walter Johnson&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Timmy Ellett\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; 200 IM<\/li>\n<li>Quince Orchard&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Catherine Belyakov\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; 200 IM<\/li>\n<li>Churchill&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Steven Mendley\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; 50 free<\/li>\n<li>Churchill&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Steven Mendley\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; 100 free<\/li>\n<li>Wheaton&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alex Colson\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; 100 fly<\/li>\n<li>Walter Johnson Boys &#8211; 4&#215;50 free relay<\/li>\n<li>Walter Johnson Girls &#8211; 4&#215;50 free relay<\/li>\n<li>Churchill&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Noah Rutberg\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; 100 back<\/li>\n<li>Churchill Boys &#8211; 4&#215;100 free relay<\/li>\n<li>Quince Orchard Girls &#8211; 4&#215;100 free relay<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/2019-maryland-3a4a-state-championships\/high-school\/2019\/February\/23?rtn=%2Fresults%2Fhigh-school%3Fpage%3D1%26orderBy%3DResult.MeetStartDateTime%26sortDirection%3D1%26q%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HERE<\/a> for full results.<\/p>\n<h1>Boys Meet<\/h1>\n<h2>Top 5 Team Scores:<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Churchill &#8211; 312<\/li>\n<li>Richard Montgomery &#8211; 279<\/li>\n<li>Montgomery Blair &#8211; 223<\/li>\n<li>Walter Johnson &#8211; 219<\/li>\n<li>Walt Whitman &#8211; 201<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Richard Montgomery&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andrew Eliason\u00a0<\/strong>(24.36),\u00a0<strong>John Clado\u00a0<\/strong>(26.43), <strong>Connor Din\u00a0<\/strong>(22.89) and\u00a0<strong>Chris Ma\u00a0<\/strong>(21.65) began the meet by winning the 4&#215;50 medley relay in 1:35.33. Din later won the 500 free in 4:37.32.<\/p>\n<p>Wheaton&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alex Colson\u00a0<\/strong>cruised to first in the 200 free, stopping the clock in 1:39.72 as the only swimmer in the field under the 1:40-barrier and was just shy of\u00a0<strong>Ben Lawless<\/strong>&#8216; state record of 1:39.40. Colson then won the 100 fly, racing to the wall in 48.31 to break his own state record of 49.08 he set at this meet last year.<\/p>\n<p>Walter Johnson&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Timmy Ellett\u00a0<\/strong>stole the show in the 200 IM, winning by four seconds with a final time of 1:49.02 to destroy his own Maryland state record of 1:52.11 he set last season. Ellett then went on to win the 100 breast, getting his hands to the wall first in 56.37.<\/p>\n<p>Churchill&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Steven Mendley\u00a0<\/strong>splashed-and-dashed his way to a win in the 50 free, winning the event in a quick 20.98 to break\u00a0<strong>Matthew Essing&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>2016 state record of 21.15. He proved his sprint talent by also winning the 100 free in 46.29 to eclipse\u00a0<strong>Griffin Alaniz<\/strong><strong>&#8216;s\u00a0<\/strong>state mark of 46.45 set three years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Walter Johnson&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>James Collishaw\u00a0<\/strong>(22.20), Ellett (20.62),\u00a0<strong>Henry Bagshaw\u00a0<\/strong>(21.98) and\u00a0<strong>Sean Keller\u00a0<\/strong>(21.63) combined to win the 4&#215;50 free relay in 1:26.43, just under Richard Montgomery&#8217;s state mark of 1:26.50 set in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Churchill&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Noah Rutberg\u00a0<\/strong>powered home to a win in the 100 back, finishing in 50.03 to lower\u00a0<strong>Mason Young&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>state record of 50.10 set in 2018 by seven-hundredths.\u00a0Sherwood&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Max Winrich\u00a0<\/strong>dove to first on the 1-meter board with a final score of 490.15.<\/p>\n<p>Churchill&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ziad Bandak\u00a0<\/strong>(48.56),\u00a0<strong>John Nguyen\u00a0<\/strong>(47.60), Rutberg (47.15) and Mendley (46.03) concluded the boys&#8217; meet with a bang by combining to with the 4&#215;100 free relay in 3:09.34, taking a second off their own 2017 state record of 3:10.33.<\/p>\n<h1>Girls Meet<\/h1>\n<h2>Top 5 Team Scores:<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Sherwood &#8211; 285.5<\/li>\n<li>Bethesda-Chevy Chase &#8211; 259<\/li>\n<li>Walter Johnson &#8211; 192.5<\/li>\n<li>Quince Orchard &#8211; 191<\/li>\n<li>Churchill &#8211; 189<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Bethesda-Chevy Chase&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Samantha Smith\u00a0<\/strong>(27.24),\u00a0<strong>Jazz Barry\u00a0<\/strong>(28.93),\u00a0<strong>Christina Trnkus\u00a0<\/strong>(25.50) and\u00a0<strong>Ailey Gold\u00a0<\/strong>(25.06) began the girls&#8217; meet by winning the opening 4&#215;50 medley relay in 1:46.73.<\/p>\n<p>Walter Johnson&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Molly Benson\u00a0<\/strong>cruised to first in the 200 free, stopping the clock in 1:50.95 to win by a full second.\u00a0Walt Whitman&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sophie Reilly\u00a0<\/strong>flew to the top of the podium in the 100 fly, touching the wall in 55.91 for the victory.<\/p>\n<p>Quince Orchard&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Catherine Belyakov\u00a0<\/strong>lit the pool on fire in the 200 IM, winning by three seconds with a final time of 2:01.41 to crush her own Maryland state record of 2:02.36 she set last year. Belyakov then went on to win the 100 breast, getting her hands to the wall in 1:02.71.<\/p>\n<p>Sherwood&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Amanda Wenhold\u00a0<\/strong>splashed-and-dashed her way to the state title in the 50 free, posting a quick 24.23 to edge out Barry (24.24) for the win.\u00a0Wenhold&#8217;s teammate,\u00a0<strong>Sophia<\/strong> <strong>Ryan<\/strong>,\u00a0powered home to a win in the 100 back with a final time of 56.66.<\/p>\n<p>Montgomery Blair&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alexandra Marney-Bell\u00a0<\/strong>earned first place in the 100 free, sprinting her way to the win in 52.04 to hold off Magruder&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Natalie Dobrzykowski\u00a0<\/strong>(52.05).\u00a0Sherwood&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kaitlin Gravell\u00a0<\/strong>led the charge in the 500 free, winning in 4:55.59 as the first of only two swimmers to break the five-minute marker.<\/p>\n<p>Walter Johnson&#8217;s Benson (23.70),\u00a0<strong>Maya Drill\u00a0<\/strong>(24.03),\u00a0<strong>Jane Umhofer\u00a0<\/strong>(23.84) and\u00a0<strong>Lianna Rosman\u00a0<\/strong>(24.56) combined to win the 4&#215;50 free relay in 1:36.13, sneaking under Montgomery Blair&#8217;s state mark of 1:36.74 set in 2018.
