{"id":353808,"date":"2019-02-23T20:50:57","date_gmt":"2019-02-24T03:50:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=353808"},"modified":"2019-02-23T20:50:57","modified_gmt":"2019-02-24T03:50:57","slug":"a-pair-of-state-records-fall-as-lincoln-southwest-girls-creighton-prep-boys-secure-nebraska-team-titles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/a-pair-of-state-records-fall-as-lincoln-southwest-girls-creighton-prep-boys-secure-nebraska-team-titles\/","title":{"rendered":"A Pair of State Records Fall as Lincoln Southwest Girls, Creighton Prep Boys Secure Nebraska Team Titles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 2019 Nebraska State Swimming and Diving Championships took place on Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Devaney Center in Lincoln, Neb.<\/p>\n<p>A pair of Nebraska state records fell at this meet:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Creighton Prep&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Rush Clark\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; 100 fly (47.54)<\/li>\n<li>Grand Island&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jonathan Novinski\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; 500 free (4:32.04)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Lincoln\u00a0Southwest successfully defended their team title on the girls&#8217; side with 362 points to secure their fifth trophy in six years.\u00a0Creighton Prep won their 13th-consecutive boys&#8217; title, and 21st championship crown in program history, with a final score of 310.5.<\/p>\n<p>Click <a href=\"http:\/\/huskers.com\/fls\/100\/19NSAASwim\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HERE<\/a> for full results.<\/p>\n<h1>Girls Meet<\/h1>\n<h2>Top 5 Team Scores:<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Lincoln Southwest &#8211; 362<\/li>\n<li>Marian &#8211; 318.5<\/li>\n<li>Elkhorn South &#8211; 185<\/li>\n<li>Lincoln East &#8211; 184<\/li>\n<li>Pius X &#8211; 179<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Marian&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Maddie Clark\u00a0<\/strong>(26.61),\u00a0<strong>JoJo Ranby\u00a0<\/strong>(28.48),\u00a0<strong>Isabella Pantano\u00a0<\/strong>(25.24) and\u00a0<strong>Amanda Allbery\u00a0<\/strong>(25.13) opened the meet by winning the 4&#215;50 medley relay in 1:45.46. Pantano then went on to earn a personal victory in the 100 back, powering home in 55.48 for the win while teammate\u00a0<strong>Megan Carter\u00a0<\/strong>won the 1-meter diving with a score of 464.70.<\/p>\n<p>Lincoln Southwest&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Allie Hathaway\u00a0<\/strong>cruised to first in the 200 free, stopping the clock in 1:53.56 for the win.\u00a0Norfolk&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Annika Harthoorn\u00a0<\/strong>flew to the top of the podium in the 100 fly, getting her hands to the wall first in 56.77.\u00a0Pius X&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Katie Stonehocker\u00a0<\/strong>raced to first in the 100 breast, touching the wall in 1:02.95 for the win.<\/p>\n<p>Lincoln Southwest&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Berkeley Livingston\u00a0<\/strong>dominated the 200 IM, winning by four seconds with a final time of 2:02.63. She showed her versatility by also grabbing the gold medal in the 500 free, posting an eight-second victory with a time of 5:01.07.<\/p>\n<p>Lincoln Southwest&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Anna Heinrich\u00a0<\/strong>splashed-and-dashed her way to a win in the 50 free, touching the wall in 23.57 as the only swimmer under the 24-second mark. She showed her sprint talent by also earning gold in the 100 free, racing to the wall in 51.93.<\/p>\n<p>Lincoln Southwest&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Marti Walstad\u00a0<\/strong>(24.55),\u00a0<strong>Reanna Reida\u00a0<\/strong>(24.83),\u00a0<strong>Isabella Morales\u00a0<\/strong>(24.01) and Heinrich (23.39) won the 4&#215;50 free relay in 1:36.78. Livingston (52.17), Walstad (52.70),\u00a0<strong>Lanyon Mlinek\u00a0<\/strong>(53.85) and Hathaway (52.72) concluded the meet by winning the 4&#215;100 free relay in 3:31.44 for another Lincoln Southwest victory.<\/p>\n<h1>Boys Meet<\/h1>\n<h2>Top 5 Team Scores:<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Creighton Prep &#8211; 310.5<\/li>\n<li>Omaha Westside &#8211; 232.5<\/li>\n<li>Millard West &#8211; 204<\/li>\n<li>Lincoln Southwest &#8211; 182<\/li>\n<li>PLVS &#8211; 155<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>PLVS&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Mark Cavanaugh\u00a0<\/strong>(23.04),\u00a0<strong>Luke Barr\u00a0<\/strong>(24.37), <strong>Daniel Keller\u00a0<\/strong>(24.17) and\u00a0<strong>Joe Ciriaco\u00a0<\/strong>(21.29) began the boys&#8217; meet by winning the 4&#215;50 medley relay in 1:32.87. Barr (20.17), Keller (22.96), Ciriaco (21.54) and Cavanaugh (20.70) teamed up again to claim the 4&#215;50 free relay in 1:25.37 for another PLVC victory.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after helping his medley relay team to victory, Barr was back in the water to claim a personal win in the 200 IM in 1:47.91 as the only swimmer in the field to break the 1:50 mark. He then went on to win the 100 breast, getting his hands to the wall first in 55.17.<\/p>\n<p>Lincoln Southwest&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Tommy Palmer\u00a0<\/strong>cruised to first in the 200 free, stopping the clock in 1:40.59 for the win.\u00a0Burke&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kody Hollingsworth\u00a0<\/strong>splashed-and-dashed his way to the wall in the 50 free, winning in a swift 21.26.<\/p>\n<p>Millard South&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zach Boyd\u00a0<\/strong>dove to first on the 1-meter board, finishing with a final score of 501.20.\u00a0Grand Island&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jonathan Novinski\u00a0<\/strong>dominated the 500 free, powering home in 4:35.20. His prelims time of 4:32.04 crushed\u00a0<strong>William Schuermann&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>Nebraska state record of 4:34.76 set back in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Creighton Prep&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Rush Clark\u00a0<\/strong>flew to the top of the podium in the 100 fly in record-setting fashion. His final time of 47.54 bettered the 47.64 he posted during prelims to break\u00a0<strong>Jacob Molacek&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>2013 Nebraska state mark of 48.68. He then went on to sprint to first in the 100 free in a quick 45.39.<\/p>\n<p>The 100 back state title went to\u00a0<strong>Ross Pantano\u00a0<\/strong>of Creighton Prep who won in 49.81 as the only swimmer in the race to sneak under the 50-second barrier.\u00a0Creighton Prep&#8217;s Clark (46.28),\u00a0<strong>Andrew Hood\u00a0<\/strong>(47.59),\u00a0<strong>Daniel Perry\u00a0<\/strong>(47.86) and Pantano (45.93) concluded the meet by winning the 4&#215;100 free relay by four seconds in 3:07.66.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 2019 Nebraska State Swimming and Diving Championships took place on Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Devaney Center in Lincoln, Neb.
