The final morning of the 2019 ACC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Greensboro will be a pivotal one in the team standings. Virginia and NC State are coming down to the wire for the ACC team title. Both schools put eight swimmers in the championship final for tonight but Virginia put seven in the consolation final that could make a big difference in the point standings.<\/p>\n

However, 1m diving and the 1650 have yet to take place so there could be more movement among the top teams in those events as well.<\/p>\n

Virginia’s\u00a0Megan Moroney\u00a0<\/strong>is on top in the 200 back after this morning while NC State’s\u00a0Sophie Hansson\u00a0<\/strong>is on top in the 200 breast. Louisville’s\u00a0Mallory Comerford\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Grace Oglesby\u00a0<\/strong>are top seeds in the 100 free and 200 fly.<\/p>\n

The full ups, mids, downs report is below. Diving has also been included! Teams are in order of the team scores after last night.<\/p>\n

200 Back<\/h3>\n
Virginia got Saturday morning started with the top three swimmers in the 200 back heats as\u00a0Megan Moroney\u00a0<\/strong>(1:51.91),\u00a0Emma Sieberlich\u00a0<\/strong>(1:52.53) and\u00a0Paige Madden\u00a0<\/strong>(1:52.76) will be in the middle lanes at finals tonight.<\/p>\n
Virginia also got a fourth swimmer into the final as half the field will be Virginia Cavaliers.\u00a0Abigail Richter\u00a0<\/strong>(1:53.87) qualified in sixth as Virginia is searching for a second straight ACC team title.<\/p>\n
NC State, who had the lead heading into today, did not go away lightly. They put three swimmers in the final with\u00a0Emma Muzzy\u00a0<\/strong>(1:53.18),\u00a0Elise Haan\u00a0<\/strong>(1:53.22) and\u00a0Kate Moore\u00a0<\/strong>(1:53.91) coming in fourth, fifth and seventh respectively. Duke’s\u00a0Madeline Hess\u00a0<\/strong>(1:54.13) was the last swimmer in the final.<\/p>\n

100 Free<\/h3>\n
Louisville’s\u00a0Mallory Comerford\u00a0<\/strong>will have lane four in the 100 free on Saturday night at the ACC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Greensboro as she swam a 47.48 in the heats. Comerford is just ahead of 50 free runner-up\u00a0Ky-lee Perry\u00a0<\/strong>(47.53) of NC State.<\/p>\n
Virginia continued its strong morning by placing two in the championship final with\u00a0Morgan Hill\u00a0<\/strong>(47.91) and\u00a0Eryn Eddy\u00a0<\/strong>(48.68) coming in third and seventh. Hill won the 100 fly last night but no one is expected to challenge Comerford for the title.<\/p>\n
Louisville also put two in the finals with\u00a0Lainey Visscher\u00a0<\/strong>(48.53) coming in fifth this morning.<\/p>\n
Notre Dame’s\u00a0Abbie Dolan\u00a0<\/strong>(48.43), Georgia Tech’s\u00a0Iris Wang\u00a0<\/strong>(48.67) and Virginia Tech’s\u00a0Joelle Vereb\u00a0<\/strong>(48.68) also qualified for the final.<\/p>\n

200 Breast<\/h3>\n
NC State’s\u00a0Sophie Hansson<\/strong>, fresh off being the sixth fastest 100 breaststroker ever, swam a 2:07.97 in the 200 breast heats to lead the way ahead of Louisville’s\u00a0Morgan Friesen\u00a0<\/strong>(2:09.72) and Florida State’s\u00a0Nina Kucheran\u00a0<\/strong>(2:10.35). Hansson has been huge for the NC State program this year and could be pushing them to their second ACC team title in three years.<\/p>\n
NC State put three in the A-Final in the 200 breast with\u00a0Julia Poole\u00a0<\/strong>(2:10.61) and\u00a0Olivia Calegan\u00a0<\/strong>(2:11.50) coming in fourth and eighth respectively. Virginia only put one swimmer in the A-Final and that was\u00a0Vivian Tafuto\u00a0<\/strong>(2:11.16) in fifth.<\/p>\n
Louisville’s\u00a0Mariia Astashkina\u00a0<\/strong>(2:11.23) and North Carolina’s\u00a0Lillian Higgs\u00a0<\/strong>(2:11.49) also qualified for the A-Final.<\/p>\n

Louisville’s\u00a0Grace Oglesby\u00a0<\/strong>closed out the morning session at the ACC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships with a 1:54.64 in the 200 fly heats in Greensboro. Oglesby will be right next to her teammate\u00a0Alena Kraus\u00a0<\/strong>as she qualified in third at 1:55.69. Notre Dame senior\u00a0Nicole Smith\u00a0<\/strong>(1:55.37) is the second seed with her effort this morning.<\/p>\n
Checking in on the team race, Virginia and NC State both put one swimmer in the championship final with Virginia’s\u00a0Julia Menkhaus\u00a0<\/strong>(1:56.63) sitting in sixth and NC State’s\u00a0Kylee Alons\u00a0<\/strong>(1:56.80) in a tie for eighth.<\/p>\n

Women’s 1m Diving<\/h3>\n
Miami continued to flex its muscles on the diving boards as the Canes put two in the finals of the 1m event. Sophomore\u00a0Alicia Blagg\u00a0<\/strong>(327.70) is the top seed while freshman\u00a0Millie Haffety\u00a0<\/strong>(264.95) is fifth for the finals tonight. NC State got some valuable points with junior\u00a0Madeline Kline\u00a0<\/strong>reaching the A-Final for fourth at 275.30.<\/p>\n
