Tennessee&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Erika Brown\u00a0<\/strong>broke the meet record in the 50 free with a 21.33 to take down\u00a0<strong>Ariana Vanderpool-Wallace&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>meet record of 21.34 from 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Florida&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Leah Braswell\u00a0<\/strong>has the top spot in the 500 while there is a tie for the top seed in the 200 IM between Texas A&amp;M&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sydney Pickrem\u00a0<\/strong>and Tennessee&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Meghan Small<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Georgia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Walker Higgins\u00a0<\/strong>is the top seed in the 500 while Florida&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kieran Smith\u00a0<\/strong>(200 IM) and Alabama&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Robert Howard\u00a0<\/strong>(50 Free) are on top in their respective events.<\/p>\n<p>The ups-mids-downs are listed below. The teams are in order of the team standings after last night. Braswell, just a freshman, is ahead of the defending champion in Kentucky senior\u00a0<strong>Geena Freriks\u00a0<\/strong>(4:39.30). Braswell added a little bit off her season best time from the fall invitational as she is looking to be the first Florida Gator to win the SEC title in the 500 since 2008 when\u00a0<strong>Caroline Burckle\u00a0<\/strong>won the conference crown.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn&#8217;t a particularly fast heats session as Texas A&amp;M&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Claire Rasmus\u00a0<\/strong>(4:39.60) was the third and final swimmer under 4:40. Higgins looked long and strong as he posted a swift 4:12.36 to take the top seed going into finals tonight as he just missed the NCAA A cut of 4:12.22.<\/p>\n<p>Higgins is almost three full seconds ahead of South Carolina&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Fynn Minuth\u00a0<\/strong>(4:15.27), who is going for his third straight SEC title in the event. Minuth holds the meet record that he set last year at 4:10.51.<\/p>\n<p>Minuth&#8217;s South Carolina teammate\u00a0<strong>Rafael Davila\u00a0<\/strong>dropped six seconds off his entry time to grab the third seed at 4:16.04.<\/p>\n<p>Florida freshman\u00a0<strong>Trey Freeman\u00a0<\/strong>put up the fourth fastest time at 4:16.25 as he is ahead of a crowded field of 4:16s and 4:17s.<\/p>\n<p>Texas A&amp;M&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Mark Theall\u00a0<\/strong>(4:16.79), Florida&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Khader Baqlah\u00a0<\/strong>(4:17.07), Georgia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kevin Miller\u00a0<\/strong>(4:17.12) and Auburn&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Josh Dannhauser\u00a0<\/strong>(4:17.16) also qualified for the A-Final.<\/p>\n<p>Some notable A-Final misses came from a pair of freshmen in Georgia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andrew Abruzzo<\/strong>, who placed tenth at 4:17.24, and Florida&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Robert Finke<\/strong>, who placed eleventh at 4:17.25.<\/p>\n<pre><b> Event 8  Men 500 Yard Freestyle<\/b>\r\n==================================================================\r\n     SEC Meet: S 4:10.51  2\/15\/2018 Fynn Minnuth, S. Both swimmers swam a 1:53.01 for the top spot with South Carolina&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emma Barksdale\u00a0<\/strong>(1:53.73) sitting in the third spot. Those three were the only ones under 1:55 in the heats.<\/p>\n<p>Barksdale was particularly impressive with a 31.97 breaststroke split as she was one of two swimmers to break 32 seconds in the breast split. Texas A&amp;M&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Anna Belousova\u00a0<\/strong>(31.96) was the other.<\/p>\n<p>The big shock from the event was Kentucky&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Asia Seidt\u00a0<\/strong>missing out on the championship final as she placed tenth at 1:56.53. Brown just got under\u00a0<strong>Ariana Vanderpool-Wallace&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>21.34 from the 2011 SECs as Brown is in the driver&#8217;s seat to win back-to-back SEC titles in the 50 free.<\/p>\n<p>Brown is well ahead of Arkansas&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Anna Hopkin\u00a0<\/strong>(21.70) and Auburn&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Claire Fisch\u00a0<\/strong>(21.78). Hopkin split a 21.01 last night on the end of the Razorbacks&#8217; 200 medley relay while Fisch split a 21.10 for the Tigers. It was Howard&#8217;s first time breaking 19 seconds as he is well ahead of Auburn&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Santiago Grassi\u00a0<\/strong>(19.23) and Tennessee&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kyle DeCoursey\u00a0<\/strong>(19.25).<\/p>\n<p>Howard got under\u00a0<strong>Brad DeBorde&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>18.88 pool record from the 2014 SECs as\u00a0<strong>Caeleb Dressel\u00a0<\/strong>still holds the meet record of 18.23 from 2016. Howard did split an 18.30 on the end of Alabama&#8217;s 200 medley relay last night.<\/p>\n<p>Missouri has continued to have an impressive morning as\u00a0<strong>Mikel Schreuders\u00a0<\/strong>(19.31) and\u00a0<strong>Luke Mankus\u00a0<\/strong>(19.40) also qualified for the A-Final for the Tigers.
