The 2019 Washington Boys 4A State Swimming and Diving Championships took place on Saturday, Feb. 16 at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.<\/p>\n

Despite not having any individual champions, Skyline used their impressive depth to secure their first team title in program history. They finished the meet with 271 points ahead of Curtis (251) and Newport Bellevue (185).<\/p>\n

Skyline\u2019s\u00a0Samuel Shauf<\/strong> (24.48),\u00a0Colin Huynh\u00a0<\/strong>(26.06),\u00a0Jeremy Kin\u00a0<\/strong>(22.80) and\u00a0Joost Christoffles\u00a0<\/strong>(21.13) began the meet by winning the 4\u00d750 medley relay in 1:34.47, just ahead of runner-up Newport Bellevue (1:34.91) and third-place finisher Wenatchee (1:35.24). Skyline’s time broke Issaquah’s 4A meet record of 1:34.83 set last season.<\/p>\n

Curtis freshman\u00a0Patrick Keough<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>cruised to first in the 200 free, stopping the clock in 1:41.03 in what proved to be a close race. Hanford’s\u00a0Skyler Younkin\u00a0<\/strong>finished second in 1:41.40 while Kamiak’s\u00a0Maxwell Fang\u00a0<\/strong>took a close third in 1:41.57.<\/p>\n

North Creek’s Brandon Stride<\/strong> won the 200 IM in 1:50.26, shaving just over a second off of his prelims time. Newport Bellevue\u2019s\u00a0Nathan Lee\u00a0<\/strong>raced to second in 1:52.36 while Jackson\u2019s\u00a0Justin Limberg\u00a0<\/strong>placed third in 1:54.04.<\/p>\n

Tahoma’s\u00a0Nathan Ainsworth<\/strong>\u00a0splashed-and-dashed his way to a win in the 50 free, stopping the clock in a quick 20.97 to finish only .01 ahead of runner-up\u00a0Zach Washburn\u00a0<\/strong>(20.98) of Moses Lake. West Valley Yakima’s\u00a0Erik Feldmann\u00a0<\/strong>finished third in 21.14.<\/p>\n

Andrew Adam\u00a0<\/strong>of Auburn Riverside dove to first on the 1-meter board after posting a final score of 470.70 for the win. Issaquah\u2019s Robert Greg<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>took second with 445.65 points followed by Cascade Everett’s\u00a0Joseph\u00a0Hoffman\u00a0<\/strong>who finished third with a score of 434.00.<\/p>\n

Younkin\u00a0<\/strong>flew to the top of the podium in the 100 fly, clocking in at 49.18 as the first of only three swimmers under 50 seconds. 200 free champion Keough finished second in 49.29 while Camas’\u00a0Jaden Kim\u00a0<\/strong>finished third in 49.59.<\/p>\n

Wenatchee’s\u00a0Connor Elwyn\u00a0<\/strong>sprinted to the gold medal in the 100 free, finishing the race in 45.80. Washburn swam to earn the silver medal in a close 45.91 while Feldmann grabbed the bronze in a final time of 46.27.<\/p>\n

It was a family affair in the 500 free as Kamiak twin brothers Vlad Gilszmer\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Slava Gilszmer\u00a0<\/strong>took the top two spots. Vlad ultimately took first in 4:35.12, five seconds ahead of Slava’s 4:40.61. Curtis’\u00a0Matthew Dingess\u00a0<\/strong>placed third in 4:43.12.<\/p>\n

It was another close race as Moses Lake\u2019s Brett Jorgensen<\/strong> (21.96),\u00a0Noah Heaps<\/strong> (22.14),\u00a0Dylan Bond<\/strong>\u00a0(21.56) and Cole Lindberg<\/strong> (20.74) combined to win the 4\u00d750 free relay in 1:26.40. Skyline (1:26.61) and Kamiak (1:26.84) completed the top three.<\/p>\n

Elwyn added another gold to his hardware by powering home to a win in the 100 back, doing so with a winning time of 50.43. Newport Bellevue\u2019s Kevin Kyi<\/strong>\u00a0raced to second in 50.59 and Curtis’ Aaron Samms<\/strong>\u00a0finished third in 51.22.<\/p>\n

Not too long after winning the 200 IM, Stride led the charge in the 100 breast as the first of only 10 swimmers under 60 seconds, getting his hands to the wall in 56.61 ahead of Limberg\u00a0<\/strong>(56.94) and Huynh (57.76).<\/p>\n

Kamiak\u2019s Fang (46.66),\u00a0Alex Kirby\u00a0<\/strong>(48.05),\u00a0S. Gilszmer (48.19) and V. Gilszmer (46.83) concluded the meet by winning the 4×100 free relay in 3:09.73. Curtis (3:10.58) and Moses Lake (3:11.49) rounded out the top three podium finishers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
