{"id":351895,"date":"2019-02-14T13:07:19","date_gmt":"2019-02-14T20:07:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=351895"},"modified":"2019-02-14T13:07:19","modified_gmt":"2019-02-14T20:07:19","slug":"cierra-runge-andrew-seliskar-lead-pac-12-weekly-honors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/cierra-runge-andrew-seliskar-lead-pac-12-weekly-honors\/","title":{"rendered":"Cierra Runge, Andrew Seliskar Lead Pac-12 Weekly Honors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Pac-12 Conference office announced that <strong>Andrew Seliskar <\/strong>of Cal was named Pac-12 Men&#8217;s Swimmer of the Week and Arizona State\u2019s <strong>Youssef Selim <\/strong>was voted Pac-12 Men\u2019s Diver of the Week.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Arizona State&#8217;s <strong>Cierra Runge<\/strong> was named the Women&#8217;s Swimmer of the Week, while weekly diving honors went to Arizona State&#8217;s <strong>Ashley McCool<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men\u2019s Swimmer of the Week: <\/strong><strong>Andrew Seliskar<\/strong><strong>, Sr., California (McLean, Va.)<\/strong><br \/>\nSeliskar helped No. 1 California to a dominant 156-126 dual meet win over No. 10 USC at Spieker Aquatics Complex with three wins in three different strokes. He was the only triple-winner at the meet with first-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:33.77), 200 breaststroke (1:53.48) and 200 individual medley (1:44.07), while also swimming a leg on the 200 medley relay team that finished second. The win over the Trojans improved the Bears\u2019 dual meet record to 5-0 with one matchup remaining against Stanford this season before the Pac-12 Championships, March 6-9. The senior studying environmental economics and policy will compete at the 2019 FINA World Championships in South Korea, which takes place this July, where he will compete in the 200-meter freestyle. Bick<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Men\u2019s Diver of the Week: <\/strong><strong>Youssef Selim, Jr., Arizona State (Cairo, Egypt)<\/strong><br \/>\nSelim placed first in the one-meter springboard and second in the three-meter to help No. 17 Arizona State edge cross-state rival No. 15 Arizona in the Sun Devils\u2019 final regular-season meet of the season before the Pac-12 Championships. The junior earned his third one-meter victory of the season with a personal-best score of 393.15, the second-highest mark by a Pac-12 diver and the highest score by a Sun Devil this year. He also helped ASU sweep the top two spots in the three-meter, as Selim took second and teammate <strong>David Hoffer<\/strong>, who was the Pac-12 Diver of the Week two weeks ago, placed first. Selim, last year\u2019s Pac-12 one-meter champion, has maintained a 3.86 grade point average studying business communication. He was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic first team last year and was honored with the Sun Devil Athletics Men\u2019s Highest Achieving Student-Athlete Award in February 2018. He earns his second-career Pac-12 Diver of the Week honor.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><strong>WOMEN\u2019S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK<\/strong>: <strong>Cierra Runge, Jr., Arizona State<\/strong> (<strong>Cochranville, Pa.)<\/strong><br \/>\nRunge collected two individual wins last week in No. 18 Arizona State\u2019s loss to in-state rival No. 10 Arizona. Runge swam a personal best and broke a seven-year school record in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:44.04. Her time in the 200 free also ranks in the top-10 fastest times in the country at No. 9 and No. 4 in the Conference this season. The 2016 Olympic gold medalist notched a win in the 500 free (4:41.80), finishing three seconds ahead of second place for the fastest time on the Sun Devils this season and eighth-best in the Pac-12. The junior won the 3-meter springboard with a score of 344.63 for her third victory in the event this season. The Alberta native finished second in the 1-meter with 316.58 points to close out the last dual meet before the Pac-12 Championship on Feb. 27. McCool qualified for the 2018 NCAA Championship in both events as a freshman and finished second in the 3-meter at the Pac-12 Championships.
