NEW COMMIT:\u00a0<\/strong>Henrico, Va. sprinter\u00a0Sydney Whiting\u00a0<\/strong>has declared her verbal commitment to Notre Dame and will join the Fighting Irish for the 2020-21 season.<\/p>\n

Whiting, who owns a pair of U.S. Open standards, does her club swimming with NOVA of Virginia Aquatics and is primarily a sprint freestyler. She recently placed 14th in the 100 free and 15th in the 200 free at Juniors East in December, achieving a best time in the former. She capped off her summer long course season with a second-place finish in the 200m free and a fourth-place showing in the 100m free at NCSAs after recording four lifetime bests at Virginia LCM Seniors.<\/p>\n

Also competing for Trinity Episcopal School, Whiting is a four-time Virginia Ind. Schools State Championship finalist.\u00a0The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 50 free and raced to second in the 100 free as a sophomore after placing fifth and fourth, respectively, in those events during her freshman season.<\/p>\n
