The 2019 Colorado Girls 5A State Championships took place on February 9 at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center (VMAC) in Thornton, Colo.<\/p>\n

Fossil Ridge’s\u00a0Coleen Gillilan\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Lewis-Palmer’s\u00a0Meredith Rees\u00a0<\/strong>each won two gold medals this weekend.\u00a0Despite only winning three events, Fairview used impressive depth to secure the team championship crown for the third time in program history with a final score of 495.5. They dethroned defending champion Fossil Ridge (378) as Regis Jesuit (371.5) took third.<\/p>\n

    Fairview\u2019s 4×50 medley relay of Riley Tapley <\/strong>(25.83), Emma Weber <\/strong>(28.14), Jenna Reznieck <\/strong>(24.43) and Morgan Lukinac<\/strong> (23.26) began the meet by winning gold with a time of 1:41.66. Last year\u2019s winner of the event, Fossil Ridge, earned a spot on the podium in second place with a time of 1:42.22 while Regis Jesuit touched for third at 1:43.12.<\/p>\n

    C. Gillilan, a Notre Dame commit,\u00a0successfully defended her state title in the 200 free with a time of 1:47.61. Chatfield\u2019s Kathryn Shanley <\/strong>just barely broke the 1:50-marker with a time of 1:49.99 to secure the silver medal while Fairview\u2019s Mikayla Seigal<\/strong> achieved the bronze with a time of 1:51.09.<\/p>\n

    Bell won the state title in the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.06, four seconds in front of Cherry Creek\u2019s Jenna Smith <\/strong>(2:04.36) and Fairview\u2019s Amelie Lessing <\/strong>(2:04.74). Bell\u2019s teammate, Caraline Baker<\/strong>, also fell into the 2:04-zone for a fourth-place finish of 2:04.74.<\/p>\n

    Rees, who is off to Missouri<\/a>, splashed-and-dashed into first place in the 50 free with a quick 23.16. Rocky Mountain\u2019s Meredith Smithbaker <\/strong>and Heritage\u2019s Anna Shaw <\/strong>dueled for a spot on the podium, finishing just .01 seconds away from each other with times of 23.21 and 23.22, respectively.<\/p>\n

    Shaw also placed third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.78, after champion Jada Surrell-Norwood <\/strong>(50.59) of Regis Jesuit and runner-up Lindsay Stenstrom <\/strong>of Valor Christian.<\/p>\n

    Fossil Ridge freshman Renee<\/strong> Gillilan<\/strong> flew to the top of the podium in the 100 fly with a fast 52.95 while her teammate, Lucy Bell<\/strong>, finished second in 53.64. Seigal again took third in 54.97.<\/p>\n

    Arapahoe\u2019s Franny Cable<\/strong> dove to first on the 1-meter board with a final score of 562.10. Cable\u2019s teammate, Kirsten Belitz<\/strong>, followed her with a score of 511.40 for second while Izzy Gregersen<\/strong> of Ralston Valley placed third with 505.70 points.<\/p>\n

    C. Gillilan won her second individual gold medal of the meet in the 500 free, stopping the clock in 4:56.05. Just like the 200 free, Shanley followed closely behind for a second-place finish of 4:58.23. Brook Ford<\/strong> of Mountain Vista joined the duo on the podium with a bronze medal and time of 5:04.45.<\/p>\n

    Fairview\u2019s win in the 4×50 medley relay was mimicked in their 4×50 freestyle relay, with Reznicek (24.21), Weber (23.90), Lukinac (23.19) and Seigal (23.11) combining in 1:34.41 to add another medal to their collection. Arapahoe (1:35.44) and Regis Jesuit (1:35.48) finished second and third, respectively.<\/p>\n

    50 freestyle champion Rees gained another victory in the 100 back with a time of 53.71. R. Gillilan followed closely by .05 seconds behind with a second-place finish in 53.76, while Tapley earned bronze in 55.65.<\/p>\n

    After guiding her team to a pair of relay victories, Weber\u2019s first personal win of the night was earned in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.04, followed by Sophia Bradac <\/strong>of Regis Jesuit finishing second in 1:02.38. Holley Dennis <\/strong>of Mountain Vista placed third in 1:03.05.<\/p>\n

    Fossil Ridge\u2019s 4×100 free relay team of R. Gillilan (51.21), Mahala Erlandson <\/strong>(53.05), Bell (50.47), and C. Gillilan (48.93) came out on top in 3:23.66.
