The 2019 Tennessee Boys State Swimming and Diving Championships took place from Feb. 8-9 at the Tracey Caulkins Aquatic Center in Nashville, Tenn.<\/p>\n

West\u2019s Coleman Kredich\u00a0<\/strong>collected two gold medals as McCallie School won the team title with 271 points ahead of Maryville (231) and Baylor School (223.5).<\/p>\n

    Maryville\u2019s Alex Mays<\/strong> (23.34), Eli Tate <\/strong>(25.44), Noah Salcido <\/strong>(22.37) and Jackson Scott <\/strong>(20.86) got the meet off to a fast start in the 4×50 medley relay where they combined to win in 1:32.01. Baylor School raced to second in 1:33.05 as Ensworth School took third in 1:35.11.<\/p>\n

    McCallie School took the top two spots in the 200 free, led by future Indiana Hoosier Jake Marcum <\/strong>who out-touched his teammate Will Jackson<\/strong> by .01: Marcum touched in 1:38.13 and Jackson in 1:38.14. Sevier County\u2019s Thomas Horne <\/strong>powered home to third in 1:40.99.<\/p>\n

    Baylor School\u2019s Alex Borisov <\/strong>dropped just over two seconds from his morning swim to claim the 200 IM title as his own in 1:50.40. Mays, who led off the winning medley relay, finished second in 1:51.95 as Webb\u2019s Jack Hamilton <\/strong>finished third in 1:52.62.<\/p>\n

    The 50 free was a nail-biter: Kredich, a Duke commit<\/a>, splashed-and-dashed his way to the wall in 20.22, missing the state record by .01. Berean Christian\u2019s Tommy Weir <\/strong>(20.66) and Oakland\u2019s Joseph Jordan <\/strong>(21.05) finished second and third, respectively.<\/p>\n

    Independence\u2019s Spencer Jyawook <\/strong>led the charge of a tight 100 fly race and was the leader of five swimmers breaking 50 seconds. He got his hands to the wall first in 49.35 ahead of runner-up Horne (49.49) and Warren Turner <\/strong>(49.54) of Memphis University School.<\/p>\n

    Kredich followed up his 50 free win with another victory, this time in the 100 free. His time of 44.44 was two-tenths off of Trey Freeman\u2019s<\/strong> state record of 44.24 set in 2017. Baylor\u2019s Jack Kirby<\/strong> was close behind in 44.57 for second as Jordan again claimed third in 46.13.<\/p>\n

    After taking second in the 200 free, Jackson found himself on top of the podium in the 500 free after besting the field by five seconds with a new personal best time of 4:31.63. Brentwood Academy\u2019s Samuel Tiblier <\/strong>finished second in 4:36.05 while Heritage\u2019s Ethan Hathcock <\/strong>was second in 4:36.88.<\/p>\n

    The 4×50 free relay state title went to McCallie School\u2019s Max Ransom <\/strong>(21.72), Marcum (20.38), Reece Gallagher <\/strong>(21.64) and Jackson (20.47), who combined for a final time of 1:24.21. Second place went to Baylor School in 1:26.59 as Maryville grabbed third in 1:27.36.<\/p>\n

    Berean Christian\u2019s Nicholas Cassell <\/strong>dove to first on the 1-meter board, posting a final score of 517.10 for the win. Clinton\u2019s Jacob Reasor <\/strong>placed second with 502.60 points and Smoky Mountain\u2019s Dillon Richardson <\/strong>took third with a total score of 500.55.<\/p>\n

    Shortly after earning the silver in the 100 free, Kirby was back in the pool to claim a personal gold in the 100 back with a time of 48.21. Also cracking 50 seconds were Marcum (48.60) for second and Mays (49.08) for third.<\/p>\n

    Houston\u2019s Daniel West <\/strong>got his hands to the wall first in the 100 breast, touching the wall in 55.74. Completing the top three podium finishers were Borisov in 56.13 for second and Tate in 57.40 for third.<\/p>\n

    The meet concluded as McCallie School\u2019s Jackson (45.79), Sam Powe <\/strong>(47.51), Ransom (46.39) and Marcum (44.70) posted a two-second victory in the 4×100 free relay in 3:04.39, followed by Maryville in 3:06.67 for second and Ensworth in 3:12.50 for a distant third.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
