{"id":351168,"date":"2019-02-09T19:07:02","date_gmt":"2019-02-10T02:07:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=351168"},"modified":"2019-02-10T08:14:30","modified_gmt":"2019-02-10T15:14:30","slug":"new-class-record-for-emme-nelson-carrboro-sweeps-relays-to-win-north-carolina-girls-1-2a-state-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/new-class-record-for-emme-nelson-carrboro-sweeps-relays-to-win-north-carolina-girls-1-2a-state-championships\/","title":{"rendered":"New Class Record for Emme Nelson; Carrboro Sweeps Relays to Win North Carolina Girls 1-2A State Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 2019 North Carolina High School Girls\u2019 State Swimming and Diving 1-2A State Championships took place on Saturday, February 9 at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary, N.C.<\/p>\n<p>Community School of Davidson\u2019s <strong>Emme Nelson\u00a0<\/strong>highlighted the meet as she set a new 1-2A class record in the 200 IM and was awarded the meet&#8217;s Most Outstanding Swimmers while Carrboro was named the overall team champions.<\/p>\n<p>Click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/2019-north-carolina-1-2a-state-championships\/high-school\/2019\/February\/9?rtn=%2Fresults%2Fhigh-school%3Fpage%3D1%26orderBy%3DResult.MeetStartDateTime%26sortDirection%3D1%26q%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a> for full results.<\/p>\n<p><em>Complete team scores are not available at this time.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The meet began as Carrboro\u2019s 4&#215;50 medley relay squad of <strong>Kate Hegland <\/strong>(25.90), <strong>Audrey Costley <\/strong>(31.01), <strong>Lindy Bilden <\/strong>(26.21) and <strong>Anneliese Merry <\/strong>(24.12) combined to post a four-second victory in 1:47.24 ahead of Lincoln Charter (1:51.29) and Christ the King (1:51.68).<\/p>\n<p>Hegland (24.37), Bilden (25.00),<strong> Paloma Baca<\/strong> (24.55) and <strong>Emily Carpenter <\/strong>(24.09) gave Carrboro their second relay victory after winning the 4&#215;50 free relay in 1:38.01. Pine Lake Prep (1:38.84) was second and Lake Norman Charter (1:40.49) finished third.<\/p>\n<p>It was a close 200 free battle, and ultimately Croatan\u2019s <strong>Lyndsey Reeve<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/nchsaa-1a-2a-state-champion-lyndsey-reeve-sends-verbal-to-penn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">who has committed to Penn<\/a>, came out on top in 1:50.52. Closely following her was Bradford Prep\u2019s <strong>Summer Eaker <\/strong>in 1:50.74 and Salisbury\u2019s <strong>Emily Knorr <\/strong>in 1:50.86.<\/p>\n<p>Knorr later went on to win the 500 free in 4:52.73, a four-second victory. Eaker finished in 4:56.94 as the only other swimmer in the field under the five-minute barrier while Carpenter took third in 5:01.68.<\/p>\n<p>Nelson had an impressive 200 IM: she won in 2:00.70, setting a new Class 1A\/2A mark after crushing her old record of 2:02.01 from last year. Lincoln Charter\u2019s <strong>Chloe Harris <\/strong>was second in 2:03.27 followed by Salisbury\u2019s <strong>Katie Knorr <\/strong>in 2:07.68 for third.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ally Accordino <\/strong>of Pine Lake Prep splashed-and-dashed her way to a win in the 50 free, stopping the clock in a quick 23.66. Wilkes Central\u2019s <strong>Sarah Olson <\/strong>(23.71) and NC School of Science and Math\u2019s <strong>Melody Wen <\/strong>(23.75) finished second and third, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>It was deja-vu on top of the podium in the 100 free: Accordino\u2019s second individual gold of the night came in the 100 free, where she posted a time of 51.09. Again following her was Olson (51.51) and Wen (52.77).<\/p>\n<p>Chase\u2019s <strong>Jenna Bridges <\/strong>flew to the top spot in the 100 fly, getting her hands to the wall first in 55.84. Harris again placed second in 56.03 as Christ the King\u2019s <strong>Amanda Hoffman <\/strong>wound up third in 56.29.<\/p>\n<p>After leading off two winning relays, Hegland earned her first individual gold in the 100 back with a final time of 56.68. First Flight\u2019s <strong>Cecilia Cortez <\/strong>finished second in 57.22 and Lake Norman Charter\u2019s <strong>Ariel Hopper <\/strong>raced to third in 57.70.<\/p>\n<p>Nelson followed up her 200 IM win with another victory in the 100 breast: her winning time of 1:02.58 was four-tenths shy of the class mark of 1:02.18. Second went to Jordan-Matthews\u2019 <strong>Jennah Fadely <\/strong>(1:06.04) and third went to Union Academy\u2019s <strong>Kelsi Hill <\/strong>(1:06.73).<\/p>\n<p>Langtree Charter\u2019s <strong>Joslyn Oakley <\/strong>dove to first on the 1-meter board after posting a final score of 472.60. Second went to <strong>Jade Canady <\/strong>of Pine Lake Prep with 327.35 points and third belonged to <strong>Tatum Lorch <\/strong>of Christ the King with a final score of 321.05.<\/p>\n<p>Carrboro swept all three relays as they concluded the meet with a 4&#215;100 free relay victory as Carpenter (5289), Costley (53.54), Baca (54.42) and Merry (52.80) touched in 3:3365.
