Indiana\u2019s 2019 Girls’ High School State Swimming and Diving Championship took place at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. on Saturday, February 9.<\/p>\n

Carmel used their impressive depth to earn their 33rd-straight\u00a0high school championship team title, winning all three relays and three individual state titles. In true dynasty-fashion, Carmel extends their all-time national record of most consecutive championships across all sports.<\/p>\n

Carmel swept all three relays, defending their state titles in the 4×50 medley relay and 4×100 freestyle relay. Starting with the medley, Madelyn Christman <\/strong>(25.33), Kelly Pash <\/strong>(28.51), Meredith Berglund <\/strong>(24.68) and Colleen Duffy <\/strong>(22.87) clocked in with a time of 1:41.39, nearly two seconds faster than Franklin Community (1:43.14) and Homestead (1:44.00).<\/p>\n

Carmel clocked another first-place relay finish in the 4×50 freestyle relay consisting of Duffy (23.53), Avery Williams<\/strong> (23.30), Gretchen Lueking<\/strong> (23.49), and Kendra Bowen <\/strong>(22.85). The final relay, 4×100 freestyle, consisted of Pash (48.73), Lueking (50.70), Christman (50.69), and Ashlyn Underhill<\/strong> (50.70) who dropped 10 seconds from their prelims time to finish the meet with a win in a \u00a0time of 3:20.82.<\/p>\n

Carmel teammates Bowen and Underhill touched first and second in the 200 freestyle with times of 1:47.67 and 1:48.16, respectively. Mary Catherine Pruitt <\/strong>of South Bend Saint Joseph clocked in close behind with a time of 1:49.00. Pruitt earned another spot on the podium in the 500 freestyle, her 4:49.42 put her on top, with seniors Samantha Hietpas <\/strong>(4:52.55) of Fishers and Underhill (4:52.79) following in second and third.<\/p>\n

Last year\u2019s winner of the 200 freestyle, Kelly Pash grabbed a gold in this year\u2019s 200 IM. Pash dominated the heat with a time of 1:58.54, followed by Yorktown senior Emily Weiss <\/strong>(2:01.01) and Chesterton senior Jaclyn Klimczak <\/strong>(2:01.59).<\/p>\n

Sophomores swept the 50 freestyle with Northridge\u2019s Elsa Fretz <\/strong>holding her first seed coming into finals, breaking the 23 marker and winning with a time of 22.88. Carmel\u2019s Colleen Duffy <\/strong>and Franklin Community\u2019s Gracey Payne<\/strong> swam into the wall just .10 seconds apart with times of 23.31 and 23.41.<\/p>\n

Homestead senior Jackie Brenn <\/strong>secured first place in one-meter diving with a standout score of 547.55. Plainfield freshman Daryn Wright<\/strong> followed in second with a score of 486.70 while International senior Eve Geier<\/strong> finished third (468.55).<\/p>\n

Pash scored four gold medals this weekend, winning the 100 fly in addition her existing 200 IM title and 2 relay titles. She clocked in a second before Carla Gildersleeve<\/strong> (53.86) with a time of 53.86. Seeded fourth coming into finals, Caroll Fort Wayne\u2019s Teagen Moon <\/strong>slipped into third with a 54.07, shaving nearly half a second off her prelims time.<\/p>\n

Fretz earned a silver medal in her second sprint event of the day with a time of :50.12, closely behind Hobart\u2019s Emma Wright<\/strong> who broke 50 seconds in the 100 freestyle to take home the gold. Lueking came away with third with a time of 50.44.<\/p>\n

The 100 backstroke proved a close race to the podium, Carroll Fort Wayne\u2019s Mallory Jackson<\/strong> (54.32) and Chesterton\u2019s Klimczak (54.33) finishing only 0.01 seconds apart in the 100 backstroke to claim first and second. Christman clocked in at 54.44 to claim the bronze.<\/p>\n

Weiss defended her state title in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.91, although she was about a half-second off her own National Public High School record of 58.40 she set last year.\u00a0Fellow seniors Aislinn Walsh <\/strong>of South Bend Saint Joseph (1:02.56) and Delaney Wihebrink <\/strong>of Warsaw Community (1:03.06) claimed the remaining spots on the podium.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
