The 2019 Colorado Girls 4A State Swimming and Diving Championships took place on Friday, February 8 at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center (VMAC) in Thornton, Colo.<\/p>\n

As a pair of 4A records fell, Rampart High School earned the team title for the second-consecutive season with 366 points, followed by Niwot (303.5) and Cheyenne Mountain (299).<\/p>\n

Rampart started the meet off with a bang: the 4×50 medley relay squad of Claire Timson <\/strong>(25.90), Edenna Chen <\/strong>(27.61), Laelle Brovold <\/strong>(25.87) and Lindsey Immel <\/strong>(23.11) combined to win in 1:42.49 for a new Class 4A record. Four seconds behind the champions were Mullen (1:46.48) and Loveland (1:47.82).<\/p>\n

Loveland\u2019s Erin Lang <\/strong>cruised to first in the 200 free, posting a 2.5-second victory in 1:52.15. Niwot\u2019s Abigail Shaw <\/strong>finished second in 1:54.68 while Brovold raced to third in 1:55.75. Lang later dominated the 500 free as the only swimmer under five minutes, doing so in 4:58.35. Niwot\u2019s Mary Codevilla <\/strong>took second in 5:01.19 and Greeley West\u2019s Josie Carpenter<\/strong> was third in 5:04.91.<\/p>\n

Codevilla then went on to drop nearly five seconds from her prelims time to win the 200 IM by one full second in 2:03.99. Second went to Cheyenne Mountain\u2019s Harper Lehman <\/strong>while Monarch\u2019s Katey Lewicki <\/strong>finished third in 2:05.11. Lewicki later won the 100 back in 54.36, just shy of the 4A mark, ahead of Timson (55.37) and Shaw (55.67).<\/p>\n

Mullen\u2019s Sofia Zinis <\/strong>splashed-and-dashed her way to a win in the 50 free, stopping the clock in a quick 23.43. Also sneaking under the 24-second barrier were Immel (23.75) and Highlands Ranch\u2019s Aimee Burton <\/strong>(23.91). Immel then raced to the gold medal in the 100 free, sprinting home in a final time of 51.54. Her teammate Chen (52.20) and S. Zinis (52.71) finished second and third, respectively.<\/p>\n

Rampart\u2019s Maggie Buckley<\/strong> dominated the 1-meter board, posting a final score of 498.65 for the win. Denver South\u2019s Lindsey Hammar <\/strong>dove to second with 475.50 points as Arvada West\u2019s Geneva Pauly <\/strong>took third with a total score of 460.90.<\/p>\n

After taking second in the 200 IM, Lehman found herself on top of the podium in the 100 fly after touching the wall in 56.71. Also under the 57-second mark was Mia Shaeffer<\/strong> of Coronado in 56.71 and Burton was third in 57.06.<\/p>\n

Mullen\u2019s Gabrielle Zinis<\/strong> (25.35), Claire Chahbandour <\/strong>(24.16), Lindsey Sowitch <\/strong>(24.68) and S. Zinis (23.22) combined to win the 4×50 free relay in 1:37.41, three seconds ahead of the field. Niwot was second in 1:40.38 as Cheyenne Mountain took third in 1:40.90.<\/p>\n

Chen got her hands to the wall first by over three seconds in the 100 breast, finishing in a speedy 1:01.40 to break the previous 4A record. Loveland\u2019s Ashley Peet<\/strong> was second in 1:04.71 while Cheyenne Mountain\u2019s Sophia Bricker<\/strong> was close behind in 1:04.94 for third.<\/p>\n

Just like the meet began, Rampart\u2019s Immel (51.58), Timson (53.82), Johanna Miller <\/strong>(52.66) and Chen (51.55) concluded the evening as champions in the 4×100 free relay with a combined time of 3:29.61. Niwot (3:31.81) and Highlands (3:37.46) rounded out the top three relay teams.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
