Grand County was crowned boys&#8217; team champion, eight points ahead of Emery.<\/p>\n<p>Click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/2019-utah-3a-state-championships\/high-school\/2019\/February\/7?rtn=%2Fresults%2Fhigh-school%3Fpage%3D1%26orderBy%3DResult.MeetStartDateTime%26sortDirection%3D1%26q%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a> for full results.<\/p>\n<h1>Girls Meet<\/h1>\n<h2>Top 5 Team Scores:<\/h2>\n<p>1. Carbon &#8211; 267<br \/>\n2. Rowland Hall &#8211; 266<br \/>\n3. Judge Memorial &#8211; 257<br \/>\n4. Emery &#8211; 234<br \/>\n5. Richfield &#8211; 199<\/p>\n<p>The meet began as Judge Memorial&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Hailey Warden\u00a0<\/strong>(31.16),\u00a0<strong>Grace Sherman\u00a0<\/strong>(34.32),\u00a0<strong>Abby Runnels\u00a0<\/strong>(28.91) and\u00a0<strong>Hailey Grandy\u00a0<\/strong>(26.01)won the opening 4&#215;50 medley relay in 2:00.40.<\/p>\n<p>Beaver&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Rachel McMaster\u00a0<\/strong>dominated the 200 free, winning the event by seven seconds in 2:02.45. She then found herself on top of the podium for the second time of the day in the 100 free, an event she dropped over a second from her prelims time in to win in 55.69.<\/p>\n<p>Roper<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>splashed-and-dashed her way to a win in the 50 free as the only swimmer under the 25-second barrier, doing so in 24.63. She also was the sole athlete to sneak under one minute in the 100 back; she posted a final time of 58.44.<\/p>\n<p>Grantsville&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Hadlee Begay\u00a0<\/strong>flew to first in the 100 fly, getting her hands to the wall in 59.08 as the only swimmer in the field under the one-minute mark. Soon after, she won the 500 free in 5:18.11 &#8211; 15 seconds ahead of the competition.<\/p>\n<p>Rowland Hall&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Grace Smith\u00a0<\/strong>cruised to first in the 200 IM, posting a nine-second victory in 2:12.65. She also earned gold in the 100 breast, shaving off nearly three seconds from prelims in 1:09.51.<\/p>\n<p>Smith (25.58) then combined with teammates\u00a0<strong>Ella Vitek\u00a0<\/strong>(26.36),\u00a0<strong>Alison Puri\u00a0<\/strong>(26.87) and\u00a0<strong>Isabelle Louis<\/strong> (27.14) to take gold in the 4&#215;50 free relay in 1:45.95. The same quartet conclude the meet as champions in the 4&#215;100 free relay (3:53.26) as well.<\/p>\n<h1>Boys Meet<\/h1>\n<h2>Top 5 Team Scores:<\/h2>\n<p>1. Grand County &#8211; 220<br \/>\n2. Emery &#8211; 212<br \/>\n3. Millard &#8211; 189<br \/>\n4. Grantsville &#8211; 181<br \/>\n5. Telos Academy &#8211; 175<\/p>\n<p>Telos Academy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kyle McCarty\u00a0<\/strong>(27.94),\u00a0<strong>Conner Simon\u00a0<\/strong>(31.69),\u00a0<strong>Luca Quinones\u00a0<\/strong>(25.72) and\u00a0<strong>Ryan Gamble\u00a0<\/strong>(21.98) began the boys&#8217; meet as victors in the 4&#215;50 medley relay, combing to win in 1:47.33.<\/p>\n<p>Gamble then went on to win the 50 free in a speedy 22.46, about three-tenths ahead of runner-up\u00a0<strong>Corbin Arbon\u00a0<\/strong>(22.79) of Grand County. He swept both sprint events as he also was victorious in the 100 free as the only swimmer under 50 seconds in 49.12.<\/p>\n<p>Grand County&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Braxten Pierce\u00a0<\/strong>posted a quick 1:47.48 in the 200 free; he won by five seconds and was the only swimmer to break 1:50. Not too long after that, he found himself on top of the podium again after taking gold in the 100 fly in 54.30.<\/p>\n<p>The 200 IM title belonged to Guymon, who led from start to finish; the senior won by seven seconds in 2:03.35. He also got his hands to the wall first in the 100 breast in 59.70.<\/p>\n<p>Guymon (21.41) anchored the winning 4&#215;50 free relay along with teammates\u00a0<strong>Deegan Minchey\u00a0<\/strong>(24.14),\u00a0<strong>Parker Stilson\u00a0<\/strong>(24.12) and\u00a0<strong>Asher Beagley\u00a0<\/strong>(23.87) in 1:33.54. The same relay squad concluded the meet with a 4&#215;100 free relay win in 3:28.59.<\/p>\n<p>American Leadership Academy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Patrick Bless\u00a0<\/strong>shaved off nearly 13 seconds from his entry time to secure the gold medal in the 500 free in a final time of 5:08.88.\u00a0<strong>Zane Thomas\u00a0<\/strong>of Grantsville led the charge in the 100 back, stopping the clock in 57.65 for the win.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 2019 Utah 3A State Championships took place on February 7 at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
