{"id":350594,"date":"2019-02-06T18:40:34","date_gmt":"2019-02-07T01:40:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=350594"},"modified":"2019-02-07T11:09:57","modified_gmt":"2019-02-07T18:09:57","slug":"bluegrass-mountain-conference-day-1-recap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/bluegrass-mountain-conference-day-1-recap\/","title":{"rendered":"Bluegrass Mountain Conference Day 1 Recap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Emily Thirion, Swimming World College Intern.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The first session of the 2019 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championship\u00a0in Charlotte featured\u00a0six\u00a0events including the 200 medley relay, 1000 free, and the\u00a0800 free relay.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamunify.com\/recbmc\/__doc__\/21st%20Annual%20Bluegrass%20Mountain%20Conference%20Champs%202018-1206.pdf\">Meet Information<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/portal.stretchinternet.com\/wingate\/portal.htm?eventId=508484&amp;streamType=video\">Live Stream<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/2019-bluegrass-mountain-conference-day-1-day-1\/ncaa-college\/2019\/February\/6?rtn=%2Fresults%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Day 1 results<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Women\u2019s\u00a0200 Medley Relay<\/h1>\n<p>Queens University of Charlotte earned the 200 medley relay title with a time of 1:38.76, dominating the\u00a0field.\u00a0 The relay comprised of <strong>Rachel Massaro<\/strong>, <strong>Shelly Prayson<\/strong>, <strong>Georgia DaCruz,<\/strong> and <strong>Kyrie Dobson<\/strong> touched a full four seconds ahead of their second place competitors, and just missed the mark of the conference record by three tenths of a second, set by the same group of women the year prior.<\/p>\n<p>Wingate University&#8217;s <strong>Anna Miram<\/strong>, <strong>Anne-Sofie Nissen<\/strong>, <strong>Maike Hoener<\/strong>, and <strong>Sara Aringsmann<\/strong> touched for a second place finish with a time of 1:42.94. The Bulldog&#8217;s were followed by the Eagles of Carson Newman University. The relay of <strong>Ksenia Naydenova<\/strong>, <strong>Gabby Aguiar<\/strong>,<strong> Elly Culp<\/strong>, and <strong>Lisa Postuma<\/strong> earned a spot on the podium with a 1:44.95.<\/p>\n<h1>Men&#8217;s 200 Medley Relay<\/h1>\n<p>In the same fashion as their female teammates, Queens University men&#8217;s relay swept the final, hitting the wall with a time of 1:26.20. <strong>Dima Sydorchenko<\/strong>, <strong>Jan Delkeskamp<\/strong>, <strong>Maius Kusch<\/strong>, and <strong>Brody Heck<\/strong> also came up just short of the conference record, set by their teammates in 2018 by one hundredth of a second.<\/p>\n<p>Carson-Newman&#8217;s <strong>Seth Hughes<\/strong>, <strong>Andrei Roman<\/strong>, <strong>Ivo Kunzle<\/strong>, and <strong>Chad Andoljsek<\/strong> charged to a second place finish with a 1:28.39, and they were closely trailed by the third place finish of Wingate&#8217;s men,\u00a0<strong>Markus Furst<\/strong>, <strong>Giacomo Viazzo<\/strong>, <strong>Niklas Martin<\/strong>, and <strong>Lukas Kraft<\/strong>. Wingate clinched the bronze with a 1:28.50.<\/p>\n<h1>Women&#8217;s 1000 Free<\/h1>\n<p><strong>Sarah Reamy<\/strong> of Queens University picked up her first win of the meet, clocking in with a 9:57.45. The second place finisher, and Queen&#8217;s teammate\u00a0<strong>Francesca Bains<\/strong>, paced with Reamy for most of the race touching shortly thereafter with a 9:59.12. Both girls went under the meet record of 10:02.26, which Bains had set in 2018. Wingate&#8217;s <strong>Kate Agger<\/strong> shaved seven and a half seconds off her entry time to take third in 10:05.45. Wingate teammate <strong>Louise Hallden<\/strong> was fourth in 10:13.19. Queen&#8217;s <strong>Hayley Blaauw<\/strong> took fifth in 10:13.76 after dropping eleven and a half seconds off of her seed time. <strong>Carol Bek<\/strong> (10:24.31), <strong>Mathilde Cros<\/strong> (10:25.78) and <strong>Sydney Smith<\/strong> (10:29.69) rounded out the heat.<\/p>\n<h1>Men&#8217;s 1000 Free<\/h1>\n<p><strong>Alex Kunert<\/strong> of Queens University swept the 1000 free with a 8:58.46. His next closest competitor finishing just under fourteen seconds behind him. Kunert decimated the conference record (9:04.86)\u00a0previously held by<strong> Iaroslav Denysenko\u00a0<\/strong>since 2012. <strong>Luke Erwee<\/strong> posted a competitive 9:13.35 for second and was followed by <strong>Ben Evans<\/strong> (9:19.84) and <strong>Marcelo Figueiredo\u00a0<\/strong>(9:13.35) respectively. <strong>Max Sundberg<\/strong> (9:24:39), <strong>Jonas Soerensen<\/strong> (9:26.69), <strong>Skyler Cook-Weeks<\/strong> (9:27.14), and <strong>Felix Grieb<\/strong> (9:27.14) took fifth through eighth.<\/p>\n<h1>Women&#8217;s 800 Free Relay<\/h1>\n<p>Queens\u00a0University women\u00a0stole the show, clocking in with a 7:20.65, and picking up\u00a0a second relay win to end the night. Francesca Bains, <strong>Josephina Lorda<\/strong>, <strong>Anna De Boers<\/strong>, and <strong>Lexie Baker<\/strong> led the way with both Lorda and Baker sub 1:50 in their legs of the race. Following Queens, Wingate&#8217;s women <strong>Hanna Van Horen<\/strong>, <strong>Abby Kosic<\/strong>, <strong>Maria Madsen<\/strong>, and <strong>Leticia Odorici<\/strong> earned a second place finish in 7:24.27. Carson-Newman&#8217;s Gabby Aguiar, <strong>Iuliia Fomina<\/strong>, <strong>Regina Zipperer<\/strong>, and Lisa Postma locked in a bronze with a 7:36.75. All three teams on the podium clocked in under their entry times.<\/p>\n<h1>Men&#8217;s 800 Free Relay<\/h1>\n<p>Queen&#8217;s men cemented a sweep for the university on the first night. Touching with a 6:23.68, <strong>Alen Mosic<\/strong>, Marius Kusch, Alex Kunert, and Skyler Cook-Weeks broke the conference record of 6:25.36 previously set by the university.\u00a0 The men dropped ten and a half seconds from their entry time.\u00a0Wingate&#8217;s men, including <strong>Lennart Queiss<\/strong>, <strong>Niklas Martin<\/strong>, Max Sundberg, and Markus Furst\u00a0followed Queens with a 6:32.98. Carson-Newman&#8217;s <strong>Jon Lancaster<\/strong>, <strong>Nikola Tadic<\/strong>, <strong>Matthew George<\/strong>, and Marcelo Figueiredo secured a third place finish for their school.<\/p>\n<p>Queens Men&#8217;s and Women&#8217;s programs lead in team score at the end of the first night.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Emily Thirion, Swimming World College Intern.
