LUXEMBOURG, June 30. A strong contingent of Dutch swimmers, along with plenty of other European nations, took part in the open Luxembourg Long Course Nationals this weekend. A total of 10 events featured new meet records going up on the scoreboard, with Clarissa van Rheenen and Rieneke Terink have a part in most of them.<\/p>\n
Van Rheenen, who previously trained in Norway up until 2007 before moving to The Netherlands to compete, finished the two-day competition with meet records in the women's 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter freestyle events. <\/p>\n
In finals of the 50, van Rheenen clocked a 25.43 after the record had already fallen twice before. Terink first set it in prelims with a 26.18 before van Rheenen returned fire the following heat with a 25.88. She has a personal best of 24.92 to her credit.<\/p>\n
Van Rheenen then popped a 55.74 in the 100-meter free after first setting the meet mark with a 56.34 in prelims, before Terink clocked a 55.94 in the next heat. Van Rheenen finished just a second off her personal best of 54.76 in the event. <\/p>\n
Terink dropped a pair of longer distance freestyle meet records. She posted a 2:00.50 to top the women's 200-meter freestyle, while also downing the 400-meter freestyle with a 4:13.40. Terink is best known for her strong run in 2008, when she took down the national record in the short course meter 400-meter IM. Her times this week in the 200 and 400 look to be personal records for the resurgent swimmer. <\/p>\n
Finland's Williams Wihanto set the men's 50-meter breaststroke record in 28.21, while Portugal's Ana Goncalves Neto (8:56.76) and Ana Marta Miranda (5:04.75) set the women's 800-meter free and women's 400-meter IM meet records, respectively. <\/p>\n
The Eindhoven Swimming Team also set a slew of relay meet standards, taking down the men's 400-meter free (3:28.48), men's 400-meter medley (3:56.92) and women's 400-meter free (3:52.14) relays during the two-day stint in Luxembourg.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
