{"id":349403,"date":"2019-01-30T13:07:30","date_gmt":"2019-01-30T20:07:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=349403"},"modified":"2019-01-30T13:43:44","modified_gmt":"2019-01-30T20:43:44","slug":"cals-daniel-carr-leads-pac-12-weekly-honors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/cals-daniel-carr-leads-pac-12-weekly-honors\/","title":{"rendered":"Cal&#8217;s Daniel Carr Leads Pac-12 Weekly Honors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Pac-12 Conference office announced today that <strong>Daniel Carr<\/strong> of Cal was named Pac-12 Men&#8217;s Swimmer of the Week and Arizona State\u2019s <strong>David Hoffer<\/strong> was voted Pac-12 Men\u2019s Diver of the Week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men\u2019s Swimmer of the Week: Daniel Carr, So., California (Colorado Springs, Colo.)<\/strong><br \/>\nCarr helped Cal sweep a pair of road dual meets against No. 14 Arizona State and No. 21 Arizona with two first place finishes and two second-place finishes. The standout sophomore swept the 100-yard backstroke events with a 47.25 time in Tempe and 47.67 time in Tucson, and took home second in the 200-yard backstroke events, as well. Carr helped the No. 1-ranked Bears improve to 4-0 in dual meet action with just two dual meets remaining before the Pac-12 Championships, March 6-9. Carr was also recently named to the USA Swimming Pan American Games roster in Peru, which takes place this August, where he will compete in the 100- and 200-meter backstroke. This marks his first weekly or monthly Pac-12 swimming honor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men\u2019s Diver of the Week: David Hoffer, Gr., Arizona State (Littleton, Colo.)<\/strong><br \/>\nHoffer had two strong home dual meets against No. 1 California and No. 7 Stanford, winning two three-meter events and placing second in the one-meter events. Although the Sun Devils fell to both the Bears and Cardinal, his score of 405.23 in the three-meter on Jan. 26 against Stanford is the highest score in the Pac-12 this season. His season-high three-meter mark is currently the 24th-highest score in the event in Division I diving and marked the first time a Sun Devil scored 400+ this season. The graduate student earns his first Pac-12 Swimmer of the Week honor, but has previously won three monthly honors, twice as a freshman and once as a junior.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><strong>WOMEN\u2019S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Katie<\/strong> <strong>McLaughlin, Sr., California (Dana Point, Calif.)<\/strong><br \/>\nMcLaughlin went undefeated in five different individual races by more than a full second each and earned a podium finish in three relays in California\u2019s dual meet victories over Arizona State (190-110) and Arizona (179-118) last week. The senior won the 200-meter butterfly (1:55.78) by nearly four seconds and took home the 500 freestyle (4:48.02) versus ASU, while placing first in the 200 free relay (1:30.26) and second in the 200 medley relay (1:40.76). Finished first in three races against the Wildcats, including the 200 free (1:46.81), 100 free (49.29) and 100 fly (52.69) before helping the 400 free relay clock in second at a time of 3:22.22. Her splits on the 200 medley relay at Arizona State (23.42 fly) and 400 free relay at Arizona (48.86) were both the fastest of all swimmers.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><strong>WOMEN\u2019S DIVER OF THE WEEK: Delaney Schnell, So., Arizona (Tucson, Ariz.)<\/strong><br \/>\nSchnell won all four events she competed in last week as Arizona competed against Stanford and California. The sophomore swept the women&#8217;s diving events versus the Cardinal with 314.33 points in the 1-meter and then claimed the 3-meter with a score of 369.23, which is just two points shy of the school record and a personal best.
