DEBRECEN, Hungary, June 28. TWO big storylines emerged from the Hungarian Nationals this evening in Debrecen. The Queen kept rolling with another national title, while a King was slayed in his pet event. <\/p>\n
Hosszu's sixth gold medal of the meet came by way of the women's 50-meter back. She clocked a time of 28.96 for the win, while Sara Joo (29.65) and Dorina Szekeres (30.29) placed second and third in the sprint back finale. <\/p>\n
While Hosszu has been running through most of her competition this week in Debrecen, Boglarka Kapas is the one swimmer who has stood up to the challenge. After winning the 800-meter free ahead of Hosszu earlier in the meet, Kapas returned today with a 4:06.34 to 4:07.34 victory ahead of Hosszu in the women's 400-meter free. Kapas jumped to 10th in the world with her swim. Zsuzsanna Jakabos finished third overall in 4:16.66. <\/p>\n
In what can only be a huge confidence boost for Bence Biczo, the Hungarian upset the reigning Olympic gold medalist Chad Le Clos in the men's 200-meter fly in that event, 1:56.00 to 1:56.26. While it is obvious that Le Clos is focused on Barcelona later this summer, and has been faster with a third-ranked 1:55.40 on the Mare Nostrum Circuit, it's still a huge feather in Biczo's cap to claim the head-to-head triumph. Biczo vaulted to eighth in the world with his surprising swim. Laszlo Cseh finished third in a loaded top three as he posted a 1:56.35. <\/p>\n
Dalma Sebestyen snared the women's 100-meter breaststroke title with a time of 1:11.79, while Reka Pecz (1:13.00) and Ivette Szurovcsak (1:13.32) finished second and third in the finale. Gabor Financsek earned the men's 50-meter breaststroke crown in 28.12. David Szele (28.24) and Daniel Gyurta (28.52) placed second and third.<\/p>\n
Gergo Kis kept rolling in the distance freestyle events as he topped the 1500-meter free with a 15:16.67. South Africa's Myles Brown placed second in 15:20.15, while Balazs Zambo clinched third in 15:20.42.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
