CHARLOTTE, North Carolina, June 28. HEAD men's and women's swim coach Jeff Dugdale is pleased to announce the hiring of Peter Verhoef as the assistant coach for men's and women's swimming.<\/p>\n
“Peter has worked alongside both myself and Coach David Marsh for the last three years preparing our Elite Athletes for National and International competition,” Dugdale commented. “I now look forward to watching Peter grow as a professional assisting me in building leaders for life with Royals Pride.”<\/p>\n
Verhoef brings a wealth of knowledge to the pool deck at Queens; most notably with his experience at the London Olympic Games. He assisted in the coaching of six Olympians, who amassed three gold medals and three silver at the games. Since 2010 he has been an assistant coach with SwimMAC's Team Elite in Charlotte, who produced the largest group of 18 and under athletes that participated in the 2012 Olympic Trials.<\/p>\n
“I am very excited and thankful for the opportunity to join to Royals Athletic Department as part of the Men's and Women's Swimming programs,” Verhoef said. “Watching this program grow under Coach Dugdale while living in Charlotte over the past 3 years has been truly inspiring.”<\/p>\n
Verhoef is no stranger to elite swimming, both as a coach and as an athlete. As a standout student-athlete at the University of Georgia, he was a finalist at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics Trials, as well as represented the United States at the World Championships in 2007 and World University Games in 2005.<\/p>\n
“It has always been my passion to coach excellent young men and women to be better people through the lessons learned in the pool and I can't think of a better place to pursue that passion than Queens University of Charlotte,” Verhoef added. “The opportunity to follow my passion of influencing young athletes to become outstanding adults matched with continuing to assist in impacting swimming at the Olympic level makes Charlotte an incredible place for me to be!”<\/p>\n
