Former LIU Brooklyn assistant coach and Division III All-American\u00a0Patrick Malone<\/a><\/strong><\/em>\u00a0has been chosen as the next head coach of the Manhattan College Swimming and Diving programs, as announced by Director of Intercollegiate Athletics\u00a0Marianne Reilly<\/a><\/dfn><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Malone begins his tenure immediately in place of Molly Belk, who departed the program to take a position at Purdue University.<\/p>\n

“While it was a challenge to find a qualified coach in the middle of the season, we were fortunate to find an exceptional leader in Patrick,” mentioned Reilly. “I have confidence that he will facilitate growth with our swimming and diving program in both athletics and academics.”<\/p>\n

Malone arrives to the Bronx after spending three seasons with the Blackbirds. Starting with the women’s team in its inaugural year in 2015, Malone oversaw 29 individual finishes inside the top-eight at the NEC Championships during his stay in Brooklyn. In that time, the program has ranked in the top-five in team GPA among LIU Brooklyn’s athletic squads. On top of his duties in facilitating practices and recruitment in his assistant role, he also served as the Interim Head Coach from May to October in 2016.<\/p>\n

“I am thankful to Marianne Reilly, William Aloia<\/strong> and the entire administration for giving me the opportunity to lead a dedicated and talented group of student-athletes,” said Malone. “Going back to my time as a coach at LIU Brooklyn, Manhattan has always been a competitive opponent, and I cannot wait to elevate the program in the pool as well as in the classroom.”<\/p>\n

From his time as a student-athlete to his coaching experience, Malone has established his swimming roots in South Jersey. Since April of 2018, he has held the title of USA Swimming age Group Head Coach at the South Jersey Aquatic Club in Voorhees, NJ. There, he developed and supervised practices in and out of the pool and organized dry land programs for each age group in the swim club.<\/p>\n

In Cherry Hill, NJ, Malone was the head coach at the Kingston Estates Community Swim Club. Building a staff with three assistants, he coached a summer league team of 100-plus children from ages 3-18 for three seasons from 2014-2016.<\/p>\n

As a student-athlete at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ, Malone earned NJAC First-Team All-Conference honors in the 200 Fly in 2012, leading to an Honorable Mention All-American accolade in NCAA Division III. He was also named to the Second-Team in the 200 Fly, 200 and 400 Medley Relays in his Profs tenure.<\/p>\n

Outside of the pool, Malone was an Academic All-American from 2011-2013 and was recognized as a Rowan Scholar-Athlete and a\u00a0Philadelphia Inquirer\u00a0<\/em>Men’s Swimming Academic All-Area recipient in 2013. The next year, Malone received the Richard Wacker Award for upperclassmen leadership as a team captain.<\/p>\n

Malone earned his Bachelor of Arts in Geography with a concentration in Geosciences from Rowan in 2014 before receiving his Master of Sciences in Education in Adolescence Urban Education \u2013 Social Studies from LIU Brooklyn in 2018.<\/p>\n
