NEW COMMIT:\u00a0<\/strong>Westerville, Ohio native and high school junior\u00a0Janessa Mathews<\/strong> has opted to stay in-state with her recent verbal commitment to the Buckeyes for the fall of 2020. Her older brother,\u00a0Jason Mathews<\/strong>, is currently a freshman on Ohio State’s roster.<\/p>\n

A local product, Mathews swims year-round with the Ohio State Swim Club and owns the U.S. Open standard in both breaststroke events. She finished third in the 100 breast and ninth in the 200 breast at Juniors East last month after racing both of those events at Nationals. She achieved 100% lifetime bests at Phillips 66 Nationals this past summer where she placed 15th in the 100m breast. Also competing for Westerville North High School, Mathews earned the bronze medal in the 100 breast at the Ohio State Championships during both her freshman and sophomore seasons. She has also earned NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for her efforts.<\/p>\n
