JUST 11 hours into a swim that was to take her from Cuba to Florida, Chloe McCardel was stung numerous times in the mouth and neck by jellyfish, prompting concerns among medical personnel on her support team. When it became clear that McCardel&#039;s breathing was affected by the stings, the 28-year-old Australian was pulled from the water, ending a trek that was nearly a year&#039;s worth of planning. McCardel will recover, but said in a press conference today that she has no plans to attempt the swim again, saying the large schools of jellyfish make it impossible to complete the swim.<\/p>\n<p>Camille Muffat was the highlight of the first day of competition today at the Sette Colli &#8212; or Seven Hills &#8212; meet in Rome. She won the 400 free with a 4:02.64, two tenths faster than she swam last weekend in Barcelona to move to the top of the world rankings. Also impressive was Italy&#039;s Fabio Scozzoli, who dipped under the 1:00 barrier in the 100 breast with a 59.95, and the reigning Olympic champions in the 50 freestyle, Ranomi Kromowidjojo and Florent Manaudou.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PHOENIX, Arizona, June 13.
