Admission is free with competition starting on Friday at 4 p.m. (EST).<\/p><p><strong>John Abdou<\/strong>, USAWP\u2019s Chief High\nPerformance Director, is responsible for ODP. Which was another consideration by the USAWP brain-trust.<\/p><p>\u201cThat&#8217;s the whole point, to get more people excited\nabout water polo in an area that is fertile for the growth of the sport,\u201d Abdou said.<\/p><p>Gordon\nhas been on the front lines of that effort. There will be a free <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Splashball (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/usawaterpolo.org\/sports\/2018\/11\/28\/splashball-aspx.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Splashball<\/a> clinic there on Saturday, January 12 from 1 &#8211; 2:15 p.m. And, thanks to the generosity of its equipment sponsors and vendors, USAWP will donate additional equipment\u2014all with the goal of enticing young athletes to participate.<\/p><p>Gordon sees these efforts as well as the opportunity to watch high-quality age group polo minutes from home as a boon for the sport.<\/p><p>\u201cOur families will\nget a chance to see players from all over the East Coast and Midwest and that\nshould inspire them to get more involved in the sport,\u201d he said.<\/p><p>And, in a comment that&#8217;s both obvious and true,\nthe Carolina native who has devoted his life to polo added: \u201cThe more we grow, the more opportunities there will be.\u201d<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Michael Randazzo.
