THE Washington Post has joined in the voices calling for a look into USA Swimming&#039;s practices in the wake of the sentencing of Rick Curl to seven years in prison for sexually abusing a former teenage swimmer. An editorial in the Post says the United States Congress should examine USA Swimming to see if executives in the organization covered up knowledge that Rick Curl was sexually abusing an underage female, or if they ignored reports sent to the organization until the story went out to the national media. USA Swimming&#039;s only comment on the matter has been an open letter written by executive director Chuck Wielgus, who said USA Swimming first heard of the accusations Kelly Davies Currin made against Rick Curl in 2011 and that the organization acted immediately to investigate the claims.<\/p>\n<p>Construction of the two pools that will be used for competition and training in the Palau Sant Jordi at the world championships will start in a matter of days, and right now preliminary work is being done to create space for the training pool just a few hundred meters from the competition pool. The photo you see here is of the pool when it was constructed for the 2003 world championships, and it has been reported that the main pool and the amenities around it will be essentially the same as it was 10 years ago, with a few minor upgrades. Myrtha Pools, the company that built the pools used in Omaha for the Olympic Trials, will be in charge of the construction.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PHOENIX, Arizona, May 29.
