{"id":345228,"date":"2019-01-03T19:08:20","date_gmt":"2019-01-04T02:08:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=345228"},"modified":"2019-01-03T19:10:33","modified_gmt":"2019-01-04T02:10:33","slug":"wada-engages-covington-burling-llp-to-further-investigate-allegations-of-improper-conduct","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/wada-engages-covington-burling-llp-to-further-investigate-allegations-of-improper-conduct\/","title":{"rendered":"WADA Engages Covington &#038; Burling LLP to Further Investigate Allegations of Improper Conduct"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Montreal\u00a0\u2013<\/strong>\u00a0The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announces that it has engaged the law firm of Covington &amp; Burling LLP to further investigate allegations of bullying and harassment within the organization, including allegations concerning conduct by members of the Agency\u2019s Executive Committee (ExCo) during its meeting in the Seychelles in September 2018.<br><br>As communicated on\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/wada-ama.us15.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=b1807e279506be6f85bf0da1c&amp;id=4d307e7135&amp;e=7fe1459b44\" target=\"_blank\">15 November 2018<\/a>\u00a0following WADA\u2019s ExCo and Foundation Board meetings in Azerbaijan, allegations of improper conduct by ExCo members during the Agency\u2019s September 2018 meeting were discussed extensively by the ExCo in Azerbaijan; and, as part of that discussion, the initial findings of an external, independent review commissioned by WADA were presented.<br><br>The ExCo determined that, given the seriousness of the allegations, a further investigation should be carried out, and that WADA should seek legal advice to help in determining a path forward. Further to these decisions, Covington has been given the mandate to conduct a full and thorough investigation of allegations of bullying and harassment, including interviews of the relevant parties; and, to deliver unbiased and independent findings to the ExCo.\u00a0Covington has a distinguished reputation for handling sensitive investigations, including those involving workplace conduct for a variety of entities ranging from multinational companies to educational institutions.<br><br>Covington\u2019s advice is also being sought with respect to a broader, more general investigation of the organization\u2019s culture, which was discussed by the ExCo in November 2018.
