PHOENIX, Arizona, May 20. TWO of the best breaststrokers in Masters history smashed long course world records in the 200 distance over the weekend in meets in the United States and Italy.<\/p>\n
One week after wrapping up competition in short course yards at the U.S. Masters nationals in Indianapolis, David Guthrie took to the long course pool at The Woodlands near his home in Houston and swam a 1:08.27 in the 100 breaststroke. The time lowered his own world record of 1:09.07 in the 50-54 age group that he swam last August.<\/p>\n

Over in Treviso, Italy, Alberto Montini dipped under the world record in the 45-49 age group for the 200 breast with a 2:24.39. His time erased the 2:24.91 that Volodymyr Pylpchenko swam in 2009. This is Montini’s first year in the 45-49 age group, so expect the records to continue to fall. Montini is the world record holder in the 50 and 200 breaststrokes in the 40-44 age group. \t<\/p>\n
