TODAY is International Water Safety Day, but USA Swimming&#039;s Make a Splash program is making a week out of making the public aware of the importance of teaching children to be safe in the water. Cullen Jones, the main face of Make a Splash, will be making the rounds this week in New York City and its boroughs, doing interviews with TV and other media outlets and conducting clinics around the city. Joining Jones will be Olympic teammates Jimmy Feigen and Lia Neal, who lives in the New York City area. Make a Splash has worked to lower the number of drownings among minority children in the United States, and the numbers are going down, slowly but surely. Swimming World will be embedded with the Make a Splash staff all week in New York City, and we&#039;ll bring you live updates on Twitter throughout the week.<\/p>\n<p>Kristian Ipsen is the top qualifier for tonight&#039;s 1-meter springboard final at the USA Diving world championship trials. Ipsen is more known for his prowess on the 3-meter, where he won a bronze medal at the Olympics in the synchro event with Troy Dumais. But with the world championships offering a 1-meter event, this would be another opportunity for Ipsen to shine internationally. Ipsen was dominant on the 1-meter at the NCAAs, setting a new championship record. The women&#039;s 1-meter prelims were still underway as we went to air, and NCAA champion Samantha Pickens was holding onto a comfortable lead in route to qualifying for tonight&#039;s finals. The top two point scorers in the finals tonight will qualify for the world championships.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PHOENIX, Arizona, May 15.
