RIVERSIDE, California, May 11. BY just three points–415 to 412–Cerritos gained first place in the girls team standings ahead of Orcutt Academy at the CIF Southern Section Division 4A Championships May 8-10. Temescal Canyon had a much easier time of it on the boys side, scoring 308 points for their win.<\/p>\n
Boys<\/b>
\nTemescal Canyon was led by its free relay squad of seniors Jesse Hayward, Austin DeJong and Devin Deckert, along with junior Joseph Rivas. The quartet set the only Division 4 record of the meet with their 1:28.70 in the 200 yard free relay. That sliced 2-hundredths off the 2005 time of Oaks Christian. The Titans also claimed the 400 free relay victory with their 3:16.23. <\/p>\n
Cerritos' 1:41.27 gave them the win in the 200 medley relay (1:41.27) with the team of sophomore Angel Alcala, senior Ian Reyes, junior Joshua Kartawinata and sophomore Angelo Victorio. Alcala took first in the 100 fly (51.51) and was 1-tenth shy of a second event win in the 100 back, placing second to Chaffey junior Marce3l Friedrich (53.15 to 53.25). <\/p>\n
Three swimmers claimed two event titles each. San Dimas senior Austin Garcia swept the sprint free events, winning the 50 free in 21.14 and holding off Temescal Canyon's Decker in the 100 free, 47.42 to 47.53. Logan Hotchkiss, a Malibu sophomore, took care of the distance free with his first-place swims of 1:45.54 in the 200 free and 4:46.45 in the 500 free. Chasse Sodemann, a junior at Ontario Christian, doubled in the 200 IM (2:00.12) and the 100 breast (59.71).

\nThe diving title went to Austin Janik, a freshman at Grace Brethren, who put together a score of 391.45.<\/p>\n
In a tight battle for second place, Don Antonio Lugo emerged ahead of Citrus Valley, 287 to 282. Cerritos claimed fourth with 208.5 points, and San Diman came in fifth with 171.<\/p>\n
Girls<\/b>
\nCerritos swept the relay events. The team of sophomore Natalie Wong, junior Alyssa Boey, sophomore Kiri Harvey and senior Connie Liu posted a 1:52.56 in the 200 medley relay. Just 9-hundredths back was the Garden Grove quartet of junior Raquel Licea, senior Sofia Contreras, sophomore Natalie Contreras and junior Hannah Caskey (1:52.65). <\/p>\n
Freshman Megan Ma led off the Dons' 200 free relay of sophomores Somer Piper, Julia Reyes and Roxanna Yu (1:41.80); Wong, senior Connie Wu, Yu and Harvey combined for a 3:37.57 in the 400 free relay. Harvey nabbed first in both the 200 IM (2:06.29) and 500 free (5:04.64).<\/p>\n
Only 1-tenth of a second separated the first three places in the 50 free. Victor Valley Christian freshman Tianna Jorgenson posted a winning 24.58; Cerritos' Wong placed second (24.66) with Grace Brethren junior Olivia Hynes two-hundredths back in third (24.68). In an even closer contest, Hynes nipped Jorgensen for first in the 100 free, 53.31 to 53.33.<\/p>\n
Hynes' teammate, senior Janae Janik, was the top diver, scoring 485.60 points. Also claiming event titles were Alverno junior Kali Kearns (200 free, 1:55.03), Citrus Valley senior Kailee Mora (100 back, 58.78), Orcutt Academy junior Emily Mathis (100 breast, 1:05.75) and Desert Christian senior Kimberly Kuni (100 fly, 57.57). <\/p>\n
