MANY of the top swimming countries around the world have held their meets to select the athletes who will race in the world championships this summer. Only Great Britain and the United States remain, with both scheduled to hold their trials in late June. We wanted to know if you thought the United States should follow the lead of the rest of the world and hold its trials in late March or early April, or if the meet should stay where it is a month before the big meet. Almost 66 percent of people who voted in the poll said the United States should not follow suit, while 34 percent said the Americans should hold their meet in the spring. USA Swimming has been following the model of early summer selection meets for at least 10 years, so it&#039;s not likely to change soon.<\/p>\n<p>This week, Arena informed the public that three versions of their Powerskin Carbon Pro suit were non-compliant with FINA regulations in terms of permeability in certain parts of the suit. Arena waived approval of these suits and began issuing replacements for them immediately. While FINA said the non-compliant suits are not allowed in international competitions anymore and U.S. Masters Swimming banned them for this week&#039;s nationals, USA Swimming is allowing the suits through June 2, or the end of the Arena Grand Prix series, and the American high school federation is allowing the suits at the remainder of the high school championship meets this month.
