{"id":343344,"date":"2018-12-30T09:00:21","date_gmt":"2018-12-30T16:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=343344"},"modified":"2018-12-23T19:54:11","modified_gmt":"2018-12-24T02:54:11","slug":"female-ncaa-performance-of-the-year-ella-eastins-400-im","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/female-ncaa-performance-of-the-year-ella-eastins-400-im\/","title":{"rendered":"Female NCAA Performance of the Year: Ella Eastin&#8217;s 400 IM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Swimming World<\/em>\u2019s Female NCAA Performance of the Year goes to Stanford&#8217;s <strong>Ella Eastin<\/strong> for her dominating performance in the 400-yard IM.<\/p>\n<p>Eastin crushed the American and NCAA records in the 200 and 400 IM as the junior has won a total of seven individual NCAA titles in her three years.<\/p>\n<p>The 200 IM was great, but the 400 IM was stunning.<\/p>\n<h2>Original race report:<\/h2>\n<p>Stanford junior\u00a0<strong>Ella Eastin\u00a0<\/strong>destroyed all the records in the 400 IM on Friday night at the 2018 NCAA Division I Women\u2019s Swimming and Diving Championships. Eastin led from the start and swam a monster 3:54.60 in the 400 IM final to break\u00a0<strong>Katie Ledecky\u2019s\u00a0<\/strong>NCAA and American Record of 3:56.53.<\/p>\n<p>Eastin was one of three Stanford swimmers in the final as she went 1-2-4 with Ledecky (3:58.29) and\u00a0<strong>Brooke Forde\u00a0<\/strong>(3:59.34).<\/p>\n<p>Texas A&amp;M\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Sydney Pickrem\u00a0<\/strong>broke up the Stanford party and finished third with a 3:59.05 in the final.<\/p>\n<p>Texas A&amp;M\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Bethany Galat\u00a0<\/strong>(4:02.19), Missouri\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Sharli Brady\u00a0<\/strong>(4:04.12), Ohio State\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Meg Bailey\u00a0<\/strong>(4:04.26) and Cal\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Sarah Darcel\u00a0<\/strong>(4:04.44) also swam in the championship final.<\/p>\n<p>This is Eastin\u2019s third straight NCAA title in the 400 IM and Stanford\u2019s eleventh overall.
