COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. \u2013 USA Swimming today announced a 35-member roster, highlighted by seven Olympic medalists, set to represent the United States in the pool competition at the 2019 Pan American Games on Aug. 6-10, 2019, in Lima, Peru.<\/p>\n
Three-time Olympian and eight-time Olympic medalist Nathan Adrian<\/strong> (Bremerton, Wash.\/California Aquatics) will lead the way for Team USA and will compete in the 50- and 100-meter freestyle events in his Pan American Games debut.<\/p>\n Fellow Olympic gold medalists joining Adrian on the men\u2019s roster include Gunnar Bentz<\/strong> (Atlanta, Ga.\/Dynamo Swim Club), Kevin Cordes<\/strong> (Naperville, Ill.\/Unattached), Cody Miller<\/strong> (Las Vegas, Nev.\/Sandpipers of Nevada) and Tom Shields<\/strong> (Huntington Beach, Calif.\/California Aquatics).<\/p>\n The women\u2019s roster is highlighted by Olympic medalists Haley Anderson<\/strong> (Granite Bay, Calif.\/Trojan Swim Club) and Lia Neal<\/strong> (Brooklyn, N.Y.\/Team Elite), as well as Olympian Molly Hannis<\/strong> (Santa Rosa, Calif.\/Tennessee Aquatics).<\/p>\n Veteran Madison Kennedy<\/strong> (Avon, Conn.\/SwimMAC Carolina) is slated to compete in her third straight Pan American Games and is a two-time medalist at the event. Bentz and\u00a0Meghan Small\u00a0<\/strong>(Lineboro, Md.\/Tennessee Aquatics) are making return trips to the Pan American Games.<\/p>\n Six members of the 2015 Pan American Games roster went on to qualify for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team and eventually won medals in Rio de Janeiro \u2013 Bentz, Kelsi Dahlia<\/strong>, Katie Meili<\/strong>, Allison Schmitt<\/strong>, Olivia Smoliga<\/strong> and Amanda Weir<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The Pan American Games are the world\u2019s third-largest international multisport Games; they are only surpassed in size and scope by the Olympic Summer Games and the Asian Games. The first Pan American Games were held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1951 and the inaugural Parapan American Games were held in Mexico City in 1999.
