THE Australians continue to grow their roster for the world swimming championships, adding the Campbell sisters, Cate and Bronte, to the list after they went 1-2 today in the 100 freestyle finals. Cate won with a 52.92 today, with younger sister Bronte second with a 53.85. The two will not only swim the individual event in Barcelona, but will lead a squad in the 400 free relay that will attempt to back up their Olympic title with a world championship gold medal. Cate was already number one in the world in the 100 free, but is now the only swimmer under 53 so far this year. Another great event in Adelaide today was the men&#039;s 200 backstroke, which saw Matson Lawson take the win with a 1:56.59 to Mitch Larkin&#039;s 1:56.79. Those times are fourth and fifth in the world, a place Australian backstroke has not been in for a few years.<\/p>\n<p>The Australian nationals continues tomorrow with the final of the men&#039;s 50 free, which could see more than one swimmer under 22 seconds. Matt Targett and Matt Abood got under that barrier in semis today, and we&#039;ll see if it will be those two swimming the 50 in Barcelona, or maybe James Magnussen, who made the Olympic final in the 50 free last year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PHOENIX, Arizona, May 1.
