THE German swimming federation has released the list of 28 swimmers attending the FINA world championships this summer in Barcelona, Spain, with Olympic champion Britta Steffen on the list despite racing only once at last week&#039;s world championship trials.<\/p>\n<p>Steffen was plagued with an undisclosed illness at the meet, and was <a href=http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/lane9\/news\/World\/34247.asp target=\"_blank\">forced to scratch the final of the women&#039;s 100 freestyle<\/a> after qualifying third in prelims with a 55.68. Germany did not list the events each swimmer will race in Barcelona, but since she did not race the 100 free final, it is likely Steffen&#039;s involvement will only be on relay duty, though national team head coach Henning Lambertz told the media last week that options are available to put Steffen in the individual 100 free.<\/p>\n<p>Also highlighting the roster is Steffen Deibler, who posted <a href=http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/lane9\/news\/World\/34253.asp target=\"_blank\">the world&#039;s fastest 100 fly<\/a> last week and will also swim the 50 fly and 50 free.<\/p>\n<p>Two U.S. collegiate swimmers also made the list: Georgia&#039;s Martin Grodzki, who made the cut in the men&#039;s 800 free, and USC&#039;s Dmitri Colupaev, who was second in the 200 free. Of note is Paul Biedermann&#039;s absence.
