The Brazilians, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/brazil-breaks-4-x-200-free-relay-world-record-at-2018-short-course-worlds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fresh off a world record<\/a> last night in the 4&#215;200 free relay, posted the top time in the 4&#215;50 medley relay, a relay they are more widely known for dominating.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Guilherme Guido\u00a0<\/strong>(22.98),\u00a0<strong>Felipe Lima\u00a0<\/strong>(25.47),\u00a0<strong>Matheus Santana\u00a0<\/strong>(22.96) and\u00a0<strong>Cesar Cielo\u00a0<\/strong>(20.77) swam for the leading Brazilians.<\/p>\n<p>The Americans had\u00a0<strong>Matt Grevers\u00a0<\/strong>(23.36),\u00a0<strong>Andrew Wilson\u00a0<\/strong>(26.01),\u00a0<strong>Jack Conger\u00a0<\/strong>(22.36) and\u00a0<strong>Michael Chadwick\u00a0<\/strong>(20.81) as they will swim in lane three.\u00a0<strong>Ryan Murphy<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Michael Andrew<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Caeleb Dressel\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Ryan Held\u00a0<\/strong>are expected to come in tonight for the A-team in the final. The Americans have a chance for another relay world record as it stands at 1:30.44 from Russia at the 2017 European Short Course Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Brazil is ahead of Italy (1:32.20) and the United States (1:32.37). Russia (1:32.40) and Germany (1:32.64) are also within striking distance of a medal tonight. Brazil (2014) and Russia (2016) have taken the only gold medals in this event at the World Short Course Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Japan (1:33.01), Australia (1:33.06) and Turkey (1:33.11) also qualified for the final. The Turkish qualified after doing a re-swim at the end of the heats session. Hosszu was a 2:05.42 as she will be looking for her third straight World Short Course title in this event.<\/p>\n<p>Ye is the second seed at 2:06.45 ahead of American\u00a0<strong>Kathleen Baker\u00a0<\/strong>(2:06.57) and Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ilaria Cusinato\u00a0<\/strong>(2:07.11).<\/p>\n<p>The second American\u00a0<strong>Melanie Margalis\u00a0<\/strong>qualified in fifth for the final tonight as she swam a 2:07.39. Seto cruised in the freestyle with a 4:00.50 as he easily qualified in first place. Seto has won three straight world titles in this event and is looking for an unprecedented four.\u00a0<strong>Ryan Lochte\u00a0<\/strong>(06, 08, 10) and\u00a0<strong>Matthew Dunn\u00a0<\/strong>(95, 97, 99) also won three World Short Course titles.<\/p>\n<p>Seto could chase down Lochte&#8217;s world record of 3:55.50 from the 2010 Worlds in Dubai.<\/p>\n<p>Seto is well in front of the rest of the field with Brazil&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Brandonn Almeida\u00a0<\/strong>(4:04.58) and\u00a0Ecuador&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Tom Peribonio\u00a0<\/strong>(4:05.08) sitting in second and third. Almeida and Peribonio both swim at the University of South Carolina. Dahlia swam a 55.46 as she was a 54.84 earlier in the year at the FINA World Cup in Budapest. Dahlia could be chasing her own American Record by the time we hit the final.<\/p>\n<p>Dahlia is well in front of second place, who is Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ai Soma\u00a0<\/strong>(56.52). The other American was\u00a0<strong>Kendyl Stewart\u00a0<\/strong>as she is the third seed at 56.57. Italy also picked up two semi-finalists with\u00a0<strong>Elena Di Liddo\u00a0<\/strong>(56.62) and\u00a0<strong>Ilaria Bianchi\u00a0<\/strong>(56.85).<\/p>\n<p>China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Wang Yichun<\/strong> qualified for the semi-finals along with\u00a0<strong>Zhang Yufei<\/strong>. Dressel set the American Record earlier in the week at 45.66\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/caeleb-dressels-american-record-sets-up-world-record-for-mens-4x100-free-relay-at-world-short-course-championships\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">leading off<\/a>\u00a0the 4&#215;100 free relay.<\/p>\n<p>Dressel is searching for his first individual gold medal of the meet as he was second in the 100 fly and 50 free already in this meet. The 100 free is his last chance to win a gold medal individually.<\/p>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Vladimir Morozov<\/strong>, who won the 50 free earlier in the meet, is the second seed at 46.20. His Russian teammate\u00a0<strong>Vladislav Grinev\u00a0<\/strong>(46.38) is the third seed.<\/p>\n<p>The other American was\u00a0<strong>Blake Pieroni\u00a0<\/strong>(46.39) as he qualified fourth for the semi-finals. Heemskerk swam a 23.90 while Barratt swam a 23.94. Those two plus\u00a0<strong>Mariia Kameneva\u00a0<\/strong>of Russia were the only three swimmers under 24 in the heats.<\/p>\n<p>Brazil&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Etiene Medeiros\u00a0<\/strong>(24.00) and\u00a0<strong>Ranomi Kromowidjojo\u00a0<\/strong>(24.07) of the Netherlands qualified in fourth and fifth as those two might have the most speed of anyone who qualified for the semi-finals.
