CHARLOTTE, North Carolina, April 23. FORMER Tennessee Lady Volunteer swimmer Nicole Gross was caught in the blasts that rocked the Boston Marathon on Monday, April 15. <\/a> Now, the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center is hosting a “Swim for Nicole” fundraiser on May 1 to help offset medical expenses.<\/p>\n

Gross has already undergone surgeries to begin to fix the injuries she sustained, which include a fractured leg and ankle. Her sister Erika Brannock had to undergo a partial amputation of one of her legs, according to the Charlotte Observer. The two had been at the finish line in anticipation of welcoming their mother, Carol Downing, once she finished the race.<\/p>\n

As most of you already know Nicole Gross, her husband Michael Gross and her sister Erika Brannock were all injured from the tragic event at the 2013 Boston Marathon. Nicole Gross has been a part of our Aquatic's family for many years as a Triathlete Coach at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center and we want to show our support for her and her family during this difficult time. <\/p>\n

The Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center is hosting a Swim Day on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 to raise funds for Nicole and her family to help them with their recovery expenses. Show your support by coming to the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center on May 1st and participating in swim workout. For a donation of any amount you can participate in a coached swim workout during the following times:<\/p>\n

6am — 7:30am<\/p>\n

If you cannot make the coached sessions you can still stop by and donate at anytime during the day and if you still want to swim we will have a preplanned swim workout that you can do on your own. <\/p>\n

Please make donations payable to Partner for Parks. 100% of the proceeds will go to Nicole Gross and her family to help with their recovery expenses. <\/p>\n
