Van der Burgh\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/cameron-van-der-burgh-sprints-to-new-championship-record-in-100-breast\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">won the 100 breaststroke<\/a>\u00a0gold medal in China for his third World Short Course gold medal in his career, adding to the 100 win in 2010, and the 50 win in 2016.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DVsLZ0oF0Ew\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Van der Burgh, 30, won South Africa&#8217;s first individual Olympic gold medal in men&#8217;s swimming at the 2012 Olympics when he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2012-london-olympics-cameron-van-der-burghs-world-record-ends-kosuke-kitajimas-threepeat-bid-in-100-breast-hansen-medals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">won the 100 breaststroke<\/a> and broke the world record. Van der Burgh won the bronze medal at the 2007 Worlds in the 50 breast, and won gold in the same event in 2009 and 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Van der Burgh still holds the SCM world records in the 50 and 100 breast, which he set in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Van der Burgh was\u00a0<em>Swimming World&#8217;s\u00a0<\/em>African Swimmer of the Year three times in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
