That smashed the previous world record held by the United States by almost a full second. Each American had the fastest splits of the field for their respective relay leg.<\/p>\n<p>Home team China was second (1:44.31) followed by the Netherlands in third (1:44.57). The Dutch used a strong second 100 from\u00a0<strong>Ranomi Kromowidjojo\u00a0<\/strong>(24.21) from\u00a0<strong>Femke Heemskerk\u00a0<\/strong>(23.17) to move up to the bronze medal position and pass Japan over the last leg.<\/p>\n<p>Smoliga&#8217;s time in the 50 back also broke the American record in the event, making her the first American under 26 seconds in short course meters.\u00a0<strong>Ali DeLoof\u00a0<\/strong>(26.12) held the old record.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Comerford(on setting a world record and her anchor leg):<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u201cSo excited, so awesome. Just being able to do it with these girls, it\u2019s so much more fun to do it with them than by yourself. They get me pumped up. Just diving in off Kelsi, I knew that we were in a good place and I was just ready to go.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Smoliga(on the motivation needed for a session with multiple swims): <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cWe definitely want to keep the ball rolling.
