Grothe is the current American Record holder in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/zane-grothe-smashes-american-record-in-500-free-to-break-408-for-first-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">500<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/zane-grothe-unleashes-1418-25-american-record-in-the-1650-free\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1650 yard freestyle<\/a> events, and is considered the best distance swimmers in the United States. He was a 2x SEC champion, and was a 12x All-American.<\/p>\n<p>This past summer, he was the National Champion in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/zane-grothe-holds-off-shoults-for-close-400-free-win\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">400<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/zane-grothe-smashes-u-s-open-and-championship-records-in-800-free\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">800 freestyle<\/a> events. He won three medals at the Pan Pacific Championships in Japan with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/zane-grothe-powers-to-gold-in-800-free-jordan-wilimovsky-second\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gold in the 800<\/a>, silver in the 1500, and bronze in the 400 free. He just missed the American Record in the 800 this summer with a 7:43.74, just missing the 7:43.60 from\u00a0<strong>Michael McBroom\u00a0<\/strong>in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>With his swim this summer in the 1500, he is the fifth fastest American all-time in the event, and is second all-time in the 800.<\/p>\n<p>Grothe is a late bloomer in swimming as he made his first major international team in 2017 at the age of 25. He was seventh in the 400 free at the World Championships that summer and was eighth in the 800. He also won a bronze medal for anchoring the 4&#215;200 free relay in the final.<\/p>\n<p>He will represent the United States next week at the World Short Course Championships, where he is looking for his first individual medals in a short course meters setting. He won a silver medal at the 2016 World Championships in the 4&#215;200 free relay.<\/p>\n<p>A lot of big name Team USA swimmers signed suit contracts in 2018 with the likes of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katie-ledecky-announces-partnership-with-tyr\/\"><strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/caeleb-dressel-officially-signs-deal-with-speedo\/\"><strong>Caeleb Dressel<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/simone-manuel-announces-deal-with-tyr-sport\/\">Simone Manuel<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/jack-conger-signs-with-tyr\/\">Jack Conger<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>signing deals.<\/p>\n<p>Out of the 2019 World Championship team members, there are five men that are eligible who have yet to sign a contract with a major suit company.\u00a0<strong>Chase Kalisz<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Blake Pieroni<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Jordan Wilimovsky<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Jay Litherland\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Andrew Wilson\u00a0<\/strong>have yet to sign a suit deal with a company.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>American Record holder\u00a0Zane Grothe\u00a0made it public on Wednesday he had signed with Dolfin Swimwear.
