THE list of finalists in consideration for hosting the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials &#8211; Swimming lost one city today, with Greensboro, N.C., withdrawing from contention.<\/p>\n<p>A story by local Greensboro station Fox8 reported earlier today that the city was no longer in the running, though specifics regarding the reason for Greensboro dropping out were not made clear.<\/p>\n<p>The city had been making strides in the past two years in making Greensboro a hub for aquatic sports competitions. The Greensboro Aquatic Club hosted the YMCA nationals last week, and has hosted USA Swimming sectional meets, synchronized swimming nationals, Masters swimming nationals and the Atlantic Coast Conference championships. It also was the location for the recent celebrity reality show &#8220;Stars in Danger: The High Dive.&#8221; USA Swimming will maintain a relationship with the city, staging the 2013 winter nationals there in December.<\/p>\n<p>The City of Greensboro had hoped to pair the Greensboro Coliseum Complex with the adjacent Greensboro Aquatic Center for plenty of available water for the large number of athletes expected to attend the meet.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are certainly disappointed that we will not be the chosen city for 2016, however we are very pleased and proud to have made it this far in the process against some of the largest and most accomplished sports cities in America,&#8221; said Hill Carrow, Chairman of North Carolina 2016.<\/p>\n<p>The name of the city hosting the Olympic Trials will be announced April 27.
