VICTORIA, Canada, April 4. THE second evening of the Canadian World Championship Trials proved to be exciting, with plenty of close finishes throughout the night. <\/p>\n
Victoria Poon touched out Sandrine Mainville by the slimmest of margins in the women's 100-meter free, 55.31 to 55.32, while Chantal Van Landeghem finished just behind with a third-place 55.35 in what proved to be an extremely close finale. Samantha Cheverton wound up fourth in 55.67. <\/p>\n
Joel Greenshields followed with a 50.36 to top the men's 100-meter free. Tommy Gossland snared second-place honors in 50.50, just touching out third-place finisher Hassaan Abdel-Khalik's third-place 50.57. Luke Peddie picked up fourth-place honors in 50.62. <\/p>\n
Tera Van Beilen earned the women's 100-meter breaststroke crown with a time of 1:08.15. Chelsey Salli finished second in 1:08.95, while Jillian Tyler snared third in 1:08.99. Richard Funk topped the men's 100-meter breast with a time of 1:00.87. Jason Block finished second in 1:01.91, while Warren Barnes posted a third-place effort of 1:02.37. <\/p>\n
Alexa Komarnycky snatched the women's 400-meter IM title in 4:41.65, while Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson took second in 4:42.71. Marnie Oldershaw finished a distant third in 4:47.29. Alec Page crushed the field in the men's 400-meter IM with a time of 4:18.06, while Luke Reilly placed second in 4:22.36. Will Brothers completed the top three in 4:23.66. <\/p>\n
Sinead Russell picked up her second backstroke win in as many nights with a 28.27 in the women's 50-meter backstroke. That swim nearly clipped Julia Wilkinson's meet record of 28.13 from 2013. Paige Miller touched second in 28.65, while Kristina Steins raced to third in 28.94. <\/p>\n
