I: Virginia Men&#8217;s and Women&#8217;s Swimming Teams down Pittsburgh"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UVa men win 137-104; Cavalier women triumph 135-103<\/p>\n<p>CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. &#8211; The 12th-ranked Virginia men&#39;s and women&#39;s<br \/>\n swimming and diving teams closed out the home portion of their<br \/>\n schedules in fine fashion with victories over Pittsburgh Sunday<br \/>\n (February 3) at the UVa Aquatic and Fitness Center.  The UVa men<br \/>\n improved to 7-2 on the season with a 137-104 victory over the<br \/>\n 17th-ranked Panthers.  The Cavalier women ran their record to 9-0<br \/>\n with a 135-103 win over Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n<p> The Virginia men won eight of 13 events with seven different<br \/>\n Cavaliers earning individual event wins in the 137-104 victory over<br \/>\n Pittsburgh.  UVa began the meet by winning the 400 medley relay with<br \/>\n a time of 3:19.62.  Second-year Luke Wagner (Englewood, Colo.\/Regis<br \/>\n Jesuit), third-year Jon Baird (Nashville, Tenn.\/Montgomery Bell<br \/>\n Academy), third-year Brian Best (Columbia, Md.\/Wilde Lake) and<br \/>\n second-year Luke Anderson (Charlottesville, Va.\/Bolles School) all<br \/>\n swam legs on the winning medley relay.  Wagner also won the 200<br \/>\n backstroke with an NCAA &quot;B&quot; qualifying time of 1:47.08, while<br \/>\n Anderson took the top spot in the 50 free in 20.39.  A pair of<br \/>\n Virginia first-years also registered NCAA &quot;B&quot; times.  Michael Raab<br \/>\n (Rockville, Md.\/Walter Johnson) won the 200 butterfly with a<br \/>\n career-best time of 1:46.81, while Bo Greenwood (Manakin,<br \/>\n Va.\/Goochland) lowered his time in the 200 individual medley to<br \/>\n 1:50.02.  Second-year Gary Marshall (Bartlesville,<br \/>\n Okla.\/Bartlesville) touched in 2:03.81 to win the 200 breaststroke.<br \/>\n The Cavaliers also won the two distance freestyle events.  Third-year<br \/>\n Dan DeMarco (Great Neck, N.Y.\/Great Neck South) won the 1000 free<br \/>\n with a time of 9:12.06, while second-year Ian Prichard (Ventura,<br \/>\n Calif.\/Buena) took the 500 free in 4:31.13.  Prichard was also second<br \/>\n to DeMarco in the 1000 free (9:16.11).  Anderson also picked up a<br \/>\n second-place finish in the 100 free with a time of 44.68, just four<br \/>\n hundredths of a second off the winning time.  Greenwood was second in<br \/>\n the 200 back in 1:48.00, while Baird was runner-up in the 200 breast<br \/>\n (2:07.03).<\/p>\n<p> The Panthers swept the one and three-meter diving events with Matthew<br \/>\n Schwartz winning the one-meter competition (292.80 points) and<br \/>\n Michael Wells taking the three-meter board (333.90 points).  Mike<br \/>\n Grub won the 100 free (44.64) and Max Von Bodungen won the 200 free<br \/>\n (1:39.01). <\/p>\n<p> The 12th-ranked Cavalier women won eight of nine individual swimming<br \/>\n events in posting a 135-103 win over Pittsburgh with a trio of<br \/>\n swimmers earning a pair of wins apiece.  Third-year Mirjana Bosevska<br \/>\n (Skopje, Macedonia\/Trinity Prep) posted UVa&#39;s lone NCAA &quot;B&quot;<br \/>\n qualifying time as she won the 200 individual medley with a time of<br \/>\n 2:03.70.  She also won the 100 backstroke in 59.28.  Third-year Cara<br \/>\n Lane (Charlotte, N.C.\/Providence) also won a pair of events as she<br \/>\n took the 200 free in 1:51.29 and the 100 butterfly with a time of<br \/>\n 56.49.  First-year Carrie Ellis (Valrico, Fla.\/Durant) won the 50<br \/>\n free (24.11) and 100 free (51.82) to round out UVa&#39;s double event<br \/>\n winners.  The Cavaliers also had a pair of first-years win the two<br \/>\n distance freestyle events.  Kate Wrenshall (Pittsburgh, Pa.\/Bolles<br \/>\n School) clocked a time of 10:14.65 in winning the 1000 free, while<br \/>\n Katie McWilliams (Stratford, Conn.\/Bunnell) touched in 5:00.52 in<br \/>\n capturing the top spot the 500 free. <\/p>\n<p> The Panthers&#39; Jen O&#39;Brien swept the diving competition with 289.13<br \/>\n points on the one-meter board and 268.88 points on the three-meter<br \/>\n board.
