INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, March 29. FOR the first time since the relay's inclusion in the NCAA schedule in 1989, Michigan stood atop the podium in the men's 200-yard medley relay at the NCAA Division I Men's Championships with an NCAA record.<\/p>\n

Miguel Ortiz (20.83), Bruno Ortiz (23.07), Sean Fletcher (19.92) and Zack Turk (18.45) posted the fastest 200-yard medley relay of all time with a 1:22.27. That performance clipped the previous NCAA and U.S. Open record of 1:22.36 set by Auburn in 2009. Michigan became just the eighth school ever to win the event. Bruno Ortiz wound up being extremely impressive as he actually split a better breaststroke than Kevin Cordes (23.08) in the relay.<\/p>\n

California's Tony Cox (21.24), Trevor Hoyt (23.58), Tom Shields (19.71) and Seth Stubblefield (18.64) raced to an American record time of 1:23.17 for second in the event. That beat the previous American record of 1:23.53 set by Arizona last year.<\/p>\n

Arizona's Mitchell Friedemann (21.05), Cordes (23.08), Giles Smith (20.07) and Nimrod Shapira Bar-Or (19.03) touched third overall with a time of 1:23.23.<\/p>\n

Auburn (1:24.45), Southern California (1:24.54), Penn State (1:25.52) and Texas (1:26.82) rounded out the top seven, while Stanford drew its second relay disqualification after Jack Lane had an early relay takeoff. Notably, Vlad Morozov blasted an 18.23 anchor leg to bring home the Trojans. Ohio State claimed the B final win in 1:25.37.<\/p>\n
