COLLEGE STATION, Texas–The Texas A&M women's swimming and diving team used
\nSenior Day to capture its sixth consecutive win, a 151-128 decsion over the
\nUniversity of Houston at the Student Rec Center Natatorium on Friday
\nafternoon.<\/p>\n
The Aggies (8-4) won every race in the pool while the Cougars (2-11)
\ndominated the diving boards.<\/p>\n
A&M began the meet by taking the top three spots in the 200-yard medley
\nrelay. The foursome of Laura DeCook, Danielle Townsend, Clara Ho and
\nMichelle Bird captured first place in 1:47.70, thanks in large part to a
\nbrilliant third leg by All-American Ho. Ho was also the biggest winner of
\nthe day, capturing both the 100 and 200 butterfly as well as being on the
\nwinning 200 medley relay team.<\/p>\n
Freshman Christina Thompson continued A&M's dominance of the backstroke by
\nleading a 1-2-3-4 Aggie finish in the 100 yard event and a 1-2-3 finish at
\n200 yards.<\/p>\n
Freshman Kelsey Savage was the third and final Aggie to win two individual
\nevents on Friday. Savage won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke in times of
\n1:06.42 and 2:24.43, respectively.<\/p>\n
Freshman Katie Fancher opened up a big lead early in the 1000 freestyle,
\ngave it back to the field, then held on for a two-tenths-of-a-second victory
\nin the day's longest race. In other distance action, freshman Tiffany Moore
\ncruised to a six second win over Houston's Kristen Douglas in the 200
\nfreestyle while redshirt freshman Casey Mucha was a big winner in the 500
\nfree in 5:03.29.<\/p>\n
Freshmen Courtney Patterson and Danielle Townsend were A&M's other two
\nfreshman winners, grabbing first in the 100 freestyle and 200 individual
\nmedley in times of 52.94 and 2:07.59, respectively.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Michelle Bird otswam freshman Sarah Yates for top honors in the 50
\nfreestyle by a difference of 24.31 to 24.71.<\/p>\n
Houston's Yulia Pakhalina, the 2001 NCAA champion on both the one and
\nthree-meter springboards, beat A&M senior Meghan Zack 327.6 to 282.6 on the
\none-meter board. Pakhalina beat A&M sophomore Sarah Welker at the higher
\ndistance 363.37 to 275.32.<\/p>\n
The Aggies closed the meet by taking the top two spots in the 200 freestyle
\nrelay. The quartet of Bird, Alex Baldree, Fancher and Karri Tibball swam a
\nwinning time of 1:39.92.<\/p>\n
The Aggies will take three weeks off to prepare for the Big 12 Championships
\nwhich will be held at the Student Rec Center Natatorium in College Station on
