She won the award over\u00a0<strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Micah Sumrall\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Haley Anderson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uyIfx2jSa-o\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Kathleen Baker brought the crowd to its feet with her first career world record in the 100m backstroke at the 2018 Phillips 66 National Championships in Irvine. She charged off the start and was a more than sixth-tenths of a second under world-record pace at the 50-meter mark. Baker held on over the final 50 and touched in 58.00 \u2013 a tenth under the previous mark set by Canada\u2019s Kylie Masse at the 2017 FINA World Championships.
