It is officially awards season in the sport of swimming with USA Swimming’s annual Golden Goggles coming up on Monday night in New York City, and British Swimming’s similar show going on tonight.<\/p>\n
British Swimming awarded\u00a0Duncan Scott\u00a0<\/strong>with the swimming athlete of the year award over\u00a0Adam Peaty\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Ben Proud<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Scott, 21, won six medals at the Commonwealth Games, including a gold in the 100 free<\/a>, a silver in the 200 IM, and bronzes in the 200 free and 200 fly. Scott continued his impressive summer with four medals at the European Championships where he won a gold in the 200 free<\/a> and a silver in the 100 free. Scott won relay gold medals in Glasgow in the 4×100 medley<\/a> and 4×200 free relays<\/a>.<\/p>\n Scott’s 200 free time from Europeans was the fastest time from any of the major meets this summer and his 100 free from Commonwealth’s was third.<\/p>\n Scott was also the flag bearer<\/a> for Scotland at the Closing Ceremonies at the Commonwealth Games this year, and also re-signed with Speedo<\/a> shortly after the European Championships.<\/p>\n This might be slightly surprising for swimming fans, since Peaty broke a world record this summer in the 100 breaststroke at the European Championships, and Proud swam the fastest time in textile in the 50 freestyle at the same meet.<\/p>\n Even Scott could not believe he won the award over Peaty.<\/p>\n
