ADAM Krikorian, Head Coach of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Women's Water Polo Team and one of the most decorated coaches in the history of women's water polo, has re-signed as USA Water Polo Women's National Team Head Coach through the 2016 Olympic Games.

In four years at the helm, Krikorian guided Team USA to unparalleled success, concluding with the program's first ever Olympic Gold Medal last summer in London, England. Other highlights include a FINA World Championship in 2009, a FINA World Cup title in 2010 (the first for Team USA in 31 years), a Pan American Games crown in 2011, and four straight gold medals at the FINA World League Super Final.

“We are thrilled that Adam will continue as the leader of our women's national team program,” said Christopher Ramsey, USA Water Polo Chief Executive Officer. “The team's performance under his leadership has set a new standard for excellence during the past four years, and I am personally gratified that we can continue together as partners. I know that Adam will work hard to keep us in the hunt for more gold in a competitive field. It won't be easy. We know that the International Olympic Committee is actively considering expansion from an eight to a twelve-team tournament in 2016. This could be another potential challenge for a coach and team that thrives on challenges.”

“I would like to thank Chris and (COO) Marty (Samuels) for giving me this opportunity.” said Krikorian. “Representing our country and the sport of water polo is something that our whole team takes very seriously and that goes much deeper than accumulating wins and losses. I especially would like to thank the past team, whose work ethic and commitment to personal and team development inspired me everyday and has motivated me to continue in this role.”

Prior to USA Water Polo, Krikorian was Head Coach of the UCLA men's & women's water polo teams, compiling 480 victories and 11 NCAA Championships. That tally included five straight women's NCAA titles capping his run with the women's program in 2009. He remained a member of the UCLA men's coaching staff through the 2010 season.

A former standout on the UCLA varsity water polo team from 1992-95, Krikorian was captain of the UCLA 1995 Men's NCAA championship team, UCLA's first title in 23 years. Krikorian earned National Women's Water Polo Coach of the Year honors five times-2001, 2005-08 and also received National Men's Coach of the Year honors in 2004 after having led the UCLA men's program to its eighth overall NCAA championship. He guided the women's team to seven national championships, six sanctioned by the NCAA including a string of five consecutive titles. In addition he piloted the men's program to three NCAA titles with two of the three coming as Co-Head Coach with Guy Baker.

Krikorian, 38, graduated from UCLA with a psychology degree and a business administration emphasis in June 1997. Krikorian is married to Anicia Mendez, a four-year Bruin letter-winner in varsity tennis who completed her MBA at UCLA. Adam and Anicia reside in Manhattan Beach, Calif., with their son, Jack (born July 2006) and daughter Annabel (born June 2009).

The above article is a press release submitted to Swimming World Magazine.
