The second finals session of the 2018 FINA World Cup Singapore continued tonight, with more excitement as <\/span>Vlad Morozov <\/b>downed his second world cup record of the final World Cup stop. <\/span><\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 400 IM<\/b><\/h3>\n
Katinka Hosszu <\/b>kicked off the session with a win in the 400 IM in 4:24.02. That was a few seconds off her top tanked time of 4:21.91 from Tokyo. She was far and away the fastest in the field, beating out teammate <\/span>Boglarka Kapas <\/b>by more than 14 seconds. Russia\u2019s <\/span>Vitalina Simonova <\/b>grabbed third in 4:43.91. <\/span><\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 1500 Freestyle<\/b><\/h3>\n
Australian <\/span>Mack Horton <\/b>grabbed his second gold medal of the meet in the men\u2019s mile, finishing first as the only competitor under 15:00 in 14:44.22. Horton is currently ranked #8 in the world with his time from the Tokyo World Cup stop (14:39.84). Teammate <\/span>Jared Gilliland <\/b>was second in 15:01.20, followed by <\/span>Ming Ho Cheuk <\/b>of Singapore (15:01.80). <\/span><\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 50 Backstroke<\/b><\/h3>\n
China\u2019s <\/span>Xu Jiayu <\/b>continued to dominate the backstroke events here in Singapore, taking the men\u2019s 50 backstroke tonight in 22.71. That just missed <\/span>Peter Marshall\u2019s <\/b>2009 World Cup record of 22.61, and is just .01 off his season best that ranks him #2 in the world. In second was American <\/span>Michael Andrew<\/b>, who posted another season-best of 23.11 after grabbing the top seed this morning.<\/span><\/p>\n
Women\u2019s 200 Freestyle<\/b><\/h3>\n
Femke Heemskerk <\/b>won the 200 freestyle in dominant fashion, touching the wall in 1:52.57 to win by three and a half seconds. That is about a half second off her #2 ranked time in the world. Australian <\/span>Madison Wilson <\/b>was the closest to Heemskerk in 1:56.16, while <\/span>Liu Yaxin <\/b>finished third in 1:56.20. <\/span><\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 200 IM<\/b><\/h3>\n
China\u2019s <\/span>Wang Shun <\/b>held off a charging <\/span>Mitch Larkin <\/b>to get the win in the men\u2019s 200 IM. Wang touched the wall in 1:51.84, just ahead of Larkin\u2019s 1:52.21. That is about 6-tenths off of <\/span>Kosuke Hagino\u2019s <\/b>World Cup record in the event, and 4-tenths off his own national record that he set last week in Tokyo. In third was <\/span>Hiromasa Fujimori <\/b>(1:53.86). <\/span><\/p>\n
Women\u2019s 100 Backstroke<\/b><\/h3>\n
Kira Toussaint <\/b>had her second backstroke win of the meet tonight, beating out world record holder <\/span>Katinka Hosszu <\/b>and Australian\u2019s <\/span>Emily Seebohm <\/b>and <\/span>Minna Atherton<\/b>. Toussaint touched first in 55.92, good for the #3 time in the world this year and just a tenth off of Seebohm\u2019s top ranked time from this season. Seebohm herself was third in this race, touching 56.47, while Atherton grabbed second in 56.21. Hosszu was back in fourth in 56.66. <\/span><\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 50 Breaststroke<\/b><\/h3>\n
Belarus\u2019 <\/span>Ilya Shymanovich <\/b>won a close race in the 50 breast, touching out Russian <\/span>Kirill Prigoda <\/b>25.95 to 26.01. That moves Shymanovich up to #2 in the world rankings, just ahead of Prigoda who sits at #3. Michael Andrew improved yet again on his prelims time, hitting the wall in 26.10 to drop the American record by .05, although he was only fourth here in this final. <\/span><\/p>\n
Women\u2019s 50 Butterfly<\/b><\/h3>\n
Sarah Sjostrom <\/b>pulled off another close win over Dutch sprint star <\/span>Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/b>, this time by just .01. Sjostrom touched the wall first in 24.63, a few tenths of <\/span>Therese Alshammar\u2019s <\/b>world record. Kromowidjojo was just behind in 25.64, about half a second off of her current #1 time in the world of 24.51. These two were about a second ahead of the rest of the field, with South Africa\u2019s <\/span>Tayla Lovemore <\/b>rounding out the podium in 25.54. <\/span><\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 100 Freestyle<\/b><\/h3>\n
World Cup leader <\/span>Vlad Morozov <\/b>set another World Cup record in finals tonight, blasting his old record with a 44.95. That time improves his old #1 ranked time of 45.16 from last week, and was just .01 away from <\/span>Amaury Leveaux\u2019s <\/b>2008 world record in this event. In second was Australian <\/span>Kyle Chalmers <\/b>with a strong 45.54, beating out American <\/span>Blake Pieroni<\/b>, who was third in 46.26. <\/span><\/p>\n
