Ascension Episcopal \u2013 278<br \/>\n2.\u00a0Isidore Newman \u2013 267<br \/>\n3. McGehee \u2013 206<br \/>\n4. Calvary Baptist \u2013 168<br \/>\n5. Episcopal School of Acadiana \u2013 141<\/p>\n<p>Ascension Episcopal began their winning ways as the quartet of\u00a0<strong>Ashley Gill<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Sophie Sierveid<\/strong>,\u00a0Barczykand\u00a0<strong>Grace Sheets\u00a0<\/strong>won the 4&#215;50 medley relay in 1:539.95 &#8211; six seconds ahead of the field and fast enough for a new DIV record.<\/p>\n<p>Soon after helping her relay team to victory, Barczyk dominated the 200 free, winning the event by ten seconds in a swift 1:48.87. Her time not only set a new DIV mark, but also was a new LHSAA record.\u00a0Barczyk was also victorious in the 500 free as the only swimmer to clear five minutes in 4:58.43; she still holds the LHSAA record of 4:53.82 set in 2016 and defended both of her titles.<\/p>\n<p>Calvary Baptist&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sarah Holt\u00a0<\/strong>posted an eight-second win in the 200 IM, stopping the clock in 2:09.54 for the gold. Soon after, she flew to first in the 100 fly with a time of 57.03 as the only swimmer to sneak under the minute mark for a new DIV record. Holt defended her titles in both races.<\/p>\n<p>Northlake Christian&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sage Angeletti\u00a0<\/strong>sprinted her way to first in the 50 free as the only swimmer under the 25-second barrier with a final time of 24.49 to defend her title.\u00a0Episcopal School of Acadiana&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Elena Alvarado\u00a0<\/strong>got her hands to the wall first in the 100 breast, knocking off nearly three seconds from her prelims swim to take the victory in 1:10.42.<\/p>\n<p>Gill powered home to a win in the 100 free, touching the wall in 54.24. She added her second individual gold in the 100 back in 58.95 to successfully defend her title; Isidore Newman&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Katherine Kramer\u00a0<\/strong>was also under 60 seconds in 59.34 for second place.<\/p>\n<p>Calvary Baptist&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Caroline Horne<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Molly McDowell<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Liberty Haase\u00a0<\/strong>and Holt combined to win the 4&#215;50 free relay in 1:47.29. Ascension Episcopal secured their victory as Barczyk,\u00a0<strong>Ella Sheets<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Lily Dore\u00a0<\/strong>and Gill won the 4&#215;100 free relay in 3:54.97.<\/p>\n<h1>Boys Meet<\/h1>\n<h2>Top 5 Team Scores:<\/h2>\n<p>1. Isidore Newman \u2013 385<br \/>\n2.\u00a0Calvary Baptist \u2013 253<br \/>\n3. Pope John Paul II \u2013 225<br \/>\n4. Patrick F. Taylor \u2013 217<br \/>\n5. St. Martin&#8217;s \u2013 144<\/p>\n<p>The boys&#8217; meet began as\u00a0Calvary Baptist&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Christian Booth<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Ben Ponder<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Jeffrey Cochran\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Josh Roper\u00a0<\/strong>combined to win the 4&#215;50 medley relay in 1:41.73, just ahead of\u00a0Isidore Newman (1:41.95). Booth,\u00a0Cochran and Ponder teamed up with\u00a0<strong>Martin McDowell\u00a0<\/strong>to win the 4&#215;50 free relay in 1:35.52.<\/p>\n<p>Not too long after, Ponder was back in the water to win an individual gold in the 200 IM, shaving over four seconds from his prelims swim to win in 2:00.24. Episcopal School of Acadiana&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ryan\u00a0Rhoades\u00a0<\/strong>posted a close victory in the 100 breast, getting his hands to the wall first in 1:01.30, just ahead of his teammate\u00a0<strong>Michael Dela Rosa\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.56).<\/p>\n<p>Episcopal School of Acadiana&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jack Aldridge\u00a0<\/strong>dominated the 200 free, posting a 13-second victory in 1:45.45 to shave eight seconds from his morning swim. His second win of the day came in the 100 fly, where he got his hands to the wall two seconds ahead of the field in 51.08. He successfully defend his title in both races.<\/p>\n<p>Pope John Paul II&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Davis Legnon\u00a0<\/strong>splashed-and-dashed his way to a win in the 50 free, besting the field by a full second to earn the gold in 21.60. He also powered home to a 100 free victory as the only swimmer to break the 50-second mark, doing so in a quick 47.69.<\/p>\n<p>Isidore Newman&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Pierce Thionville\u00a0<\/strong>cruised to first in the 500 free, posting a winning time of 4:42.22 for a 15-second victory to defend his title. He also found himself on top of the podium for the second time in the 100 back, knocking off almost two seconds from his prelims swim to win in 52.49. Thionville was named the boys&#8217; Swimmer of the Meet.<\/p>\n<p>Isidore Newman secured their team victory as the squad of\u00a0<strong>Floris Kulper<\/strong>,\u00a0Thionville,\u00a0<strong>Ross Jacobson\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Melle Koper\u00a0<\/strong>concluded the meet with a 4&#215;100 free relay win in 3:27.93, 19 seconds ahead of the runner-up.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 2018 Louisiana State 2A Swimming Championships took place on Nov. 15 at the SPAR Aquatic Center in Sulphur, La.
