The 2018 FINA World Cup Singapore marks the first day of competition at the final stop of the 2018 World Cup series. The preliminary session featured twelve events, where Michael Andrew<\/strong> and Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> each earned two top seeds for the first night of finals.<\/p>\n

Live Results<\/a><\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 400 Freestyle<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Femke Heemskerk<\/b> of the Netherlands kept her World Cup success rolling by cruising to the top seed in the 400 Freestyle. Her time of 4:08.62 easily won the prelim over Germany\u2019s <\/span>Reva Foos<\/b> (4:10.03) and Hungary\u2019s <\/span>Boglarka Kapas<\/b> (4:10.17). With a season best of 4:00.03, Heemkerk should win the event at finals.<\/span><\/p>\n

She will be joined by <\/span>Madison Wilson<\/b> (4:10.90), <\/span>Olivia Adams<\/b> (4:13.91), <\/span>Nam Wai Ho <\/b>(4:13.94), <\/span>Szu-An Chen<\/b> (4:16.57) and <\/span>Vitalina Simonova <\/b>(4:17.79).<\/span><\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 400 Freestyle<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Australia\u2019s <\/span>Mack Horton<\/b> will find himself in a similar position, as his season best of 3:39.52 is the best in the field. His morning swim of 3:45.83 gave him the top seed over USA\u2019s<\/span> Blake Pieroni <\/b>(3:48.91) and pair of teammates <\/span>Bowen Gough<\/b> (3:49.35) and <\/span>Jared Gilliland <\/b>(3:49.87). <\/span><\/p>\n

They will be joined in the final by <\/span>Velimir Stjepanovic<\/b> (3:50.10), <\/span>David Verraszto <\/b>(3:50.41), <\/span>Kushagra Rawat<\/b> (3:52.18) and<\/span> Guo-Ting Huang <\/b>(3:52.26).<\/span><\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 100 IM<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The same cannot be said for the women\u2019s 100 IM, where a number of swimmers could come out with the win. <\/span>Katinka Hosszu<\/b> led the preliminaries in 57.18, about half a second off her World Record. <\/span>Sarah Sjostrom<\/b> was next in 58.10 with <\/span>Emily Seebohm<\/b> (59.13), <\/span>Siobhan O\u2019Connor<\/b> (59.46) and <\/span>Alia Atkinson<\/b> (59.66) not far behind. <\/span>Tayla Lovemore<\/b> (1:00.55), <\/span>Yulia Efimova<\/b> (1:00.67) and <\/span>Franziska Weidner <\/b>(1:00.69) will round out the final.<\/span><\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 100 IM<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The USA\u2019s <\/span>Michael Andrew<\/b> was right on his season best to win the men\u2019s race in 51.74. <\/span>Kenneth To<\/b> (52.08) and <\/span>Vlad Morozov<\/b> (52.12), the current World Record in this event, will give him a challenge in the final. Also in the mix will be <\/span>Wang Shun<\/b> (52.70), <\/span>Mitchell Larkin<\/b> (52.90), <\/span>Hiromasa Fujimori <\/b>(53.19), <\/span>Keita Sunama<\/b> (53.48) and <\/span>Matthew Wilson<\/b> (53.61). <\/span><\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 50 Backstroke<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Kira Toussaint <\/b>led a tight battle for the top eight in the women\u2019s 50 Backstroke. Her swim of 26.44 came in just ahead of Seebohm (26.70), <\/span>Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/b> (26.75) and<\/span> Minna Atherton<\/b> (26.82). Of the competitors, Seebohm holds the quickest time so far this season in 26.05. <\/span>Madison Wilson<\/b> (27.36), <\/span>Toto Kwan To Wong<\/b> (27.40), <\/span>Zoe Williams<\/b> (28.11) and <\/span>Yaxin Liu<\/b> (28.16) placed fifth through eighth to advance to the final. <\/span><\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 200 Backstroke<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Larkin was quickly back in the pool to hit the wall first in the 200 Backstroke prelims. He led the way in 1:52.02 ahead of <\/span>Omar Pinzon Garcia<\/b> (1:52.71) and <\/span>Yakov Yan Toumarkin <\/b>(1:53.46). Australia then had the next three qualifiers in Tristan Hollard (1:53.65), <\/span>Travis Mahoney<\/b> (1:54.19) and <\/span>Bradley Woodward<\/b> (1:54.22). Sunama (1:54.23) and <\/span>Xu Jiayu <\/b>(1:55.25) will also race in the heat. Jiayu holds the top time in the world this year (1:48.32) while Larkin holds the World Record in 1:45.63 from 2015. <\/span><\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 200 Butterfly<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Hosszu cruised in at 2:08.07 for the top spot in the 200 Butterfly. <\/span>Zhang Yufei <\/b>will be a challenger after posting a 2:10.44 and the second-fastest swim in the world this year in Eindhoven. <\/span><\/p>\n

Alexandra Wenk<\/b> led a close race for the remaining spots in 2:11.01. She was followed by <\/span>Gemma Cooney<\/b> (2:11.07), <\/span>Lin Xintong<\/b> (2:11.55), <\/span>Boglarka Kapas<\/b> (2:12.32), <\/span>Hang Yu Sze <\/b>(2:12.80) and <\/span>Kin Lok Chan<\/b> (2:13.02).<\/span><\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 100 Butterfly<\/strong><\/h2>\n

China\u2019s <\/span>Li Zhuhao<\/b> (50.61) and Singapore\u2019s <\/span>Joseph Schooling<\/b> (50.97) posted the seventh- and fourteenth-best times so far this year in the 100 Butterfly. The swim for Schooling was just off the country\u2019s National Record in this event. <\/span>Yauhen Tsurkin<\/b> (51.42), <\/span>Matthew Temple<\/b> (51.51), <\/span>Masayuki Umemoto <\/b>(51.66), <\/span>Sajan Prakash<\/b> (51.73), <\/span>Jan Eric Friese<\/b> (51.92) and <\/span>Kuan-Hung Wang<\/b> (51.98) will also race in the final. <\/span><\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 200 Breaststroke<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Ye Shiwen<\/b> led the women\u2019s breaststroke prelim this time around in 2:23.57. Russian pair <\/span>Vitalina Simonova<\/b> and Efimova were next in 2:24.96 and 2:27.05, respectively with Atkinson fourth in 2:28.69. <\/span>Christie May Chue<\/b> (2:30.25), <\/span>Hoi Kiu Lam<\/b> (2:31.17), <\/span>Yu-Chen Wu<\/b> (2:31.67) and <\/span>Jing-An Chen<\/b> (2:31.74) placed fifth through eighth. <\/span><\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 100 Breaststroke<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Ilya Shymanovich<\/b> was first in a close race in the men\u2019s breaststroke coming in at 57.13. <\/span>Anton Chupkov<\/b> was second in 57.66 with Wilson third (57.81) and <\/span>Yan Zibei <\/b>(57.87) fourth. Joining them in the final will be <\/span>Arno Kamminga<\/b> (58.16), Fujimori (58.34),<\/span> Zac Stubblety-Cook<\/b> (58.36) and<\/span> Peter Stevens<\/b> (58.56). Of these men, Zibei holds the quickest time so far this season in 56.96.<\/span><\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 50 Freestyle<\/strong><\/h2>\n

It was a routine women\u2019s 50 Freestyle prelim with Sjostrom (23.48), Heemskerk (23.81), Kromowidjojo (24.09) and <\/span>Pernille Blume<\/b> (24.17) making up the top four. They will be joined by <\/span>Zhu Menghui <\/b>(24.20), Toussaint (24.45), <\/span>Liliana Ibanez Lopez<\/b> (24.74) and Yufei (24.96).<\/span><\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 50 Freestyle<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Andrew came away with another top seed, this time in 21.15 in the 50 Freestyle. Morozov was a close second in 21.25 with Kyle Chalmers<\/strong> (21.40) and Pieroni (21.62) in the hunt for the podium as well. Prigoda (21.85), Louis Townsend<\/strong> (21.86), Douglas Erasmus<\/strong> (21.90) and Daniel Hunter<\/strong> (22.03) will also race in the final.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
